EUROSATORY 2014: Fire Support

June 12, 2014 Thales

Fire support coordination is key in today’s operations, where joint dimension is growing significantly. Thales is showing its capabilities of providing to today’s challenging environment in the Fire Support Zone, covering both the indoor and outdoor area of the Thales stand.

The Fire Support Zones includes systems such as

  • Fire Control Systems (Comm@nder Fire),
  • the Target Acquisition System (TAS) with integrated Astronomic North-Finding,
  • the Self Protection Suite and Armaments such as Fuzes.

The Laser Guided Rocket and Lightweight Multirole Missile (LMM), can also be found on stand, and they can both be fired from a variety of tactical platforms including helicopters, fixed or rotary winged Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), wheeled or tracked vehicles or fast in-shore naval craft.

Close Air Support (CAS) operation requires the synchronisation of air and land users. In this context, the sharing of a common situational awareness is essential between all stakeholders of the fire command chain from the Battlegroup fire support advisor to the Forward Air Controller (FAC).

To meet these complex needs for Air-Land integration, Thales may rely on a comprehensive range of integrated solutions demonstrated through the ALICE (Air-Land Integration Collaborative Environment) system on stand and interoperable Communication-Navigation-Identification suites, including Tactical Data Links for all types of aircraft (helicopters, fighters, UAVs).

Alongside this, Thales are also showing their capabilities with systems such as the Self-Protection Suite (SPS) which offers the latest generation of technology for the protection of all types of helicopters and crew from attack, particularly by surface-to-air and air-to-air missiles. Thales’ SPS includes

  • the Electronic Warfare Suite Controller & Electronic Support Measure CATS,
  • the Active Missile Warning System MWS-20,
  • the Passive Infra-Red Threat Warning System ELIX-IR and
  • the Countermeasure Dispensing System VICON XF.
