The training of GTIA 5 began on Monday, June 16, at Koulikoro. The collective training will last for ten weeks during which the officers and the other ranks of the GTIA will work on their technical and tactical skills together with their European trainers. The training will take place in and around Koulikoro camp, benefiting in particular from the shooting ranges near the camp.
Weekly outputs from the field will gradually develop the coordination of tactical actions, from squad to platoon and company. A final exercise will complete the training and allow all GTIA soldiers to apply the acquired knowledge, under the orders of their Commanding Officer.
After ten weeks of intense training, the Malian soldier who pass through Koulikoro have to learn how to manage the skills acquired during the training and behave in a professional and military way: he will be master of his strength, respectful towards his opponent and concerned to protect innocent civilians.
The ceremony marking the beginning of the GTIA 5 training was an opportunity for the commander of the Training Task Force to remind European trainers and Malian trainees that they have to jointly contribute to the overall success of this project. On the parade ground where the ceremony took place, the merger of ranks between trainers and trainees symbolized their commitment to achieve their objectives.
