The Belgian Frigate “Leopold I” joined EUNAVFOR MED

On October 10 2015, the Belgian frigate Leopold I officially has joined EUNAVFOR MED – Operation Sophia.

The Belgian ship will work together with the other ships already deployed in the region.

On 7 October, as announced by the EU Political and Security Committee last 28 September, Operation EUNAVFOR MED – Operation Sophia will move to its second phase which would allow for the boarding, search, seizure and diversion of smugglers' vessels on the high seas under the conditions provided for by applicable international law.
