On the morning of January 19, 2012, local time, Rear Admiral Li Shihong, commander of the 10th Chinese naval escort taskforce, met with Rear Admiral Tuosun, commander of the NATO 508 task fleet,
and the two sides exchanged views on board. They shared anti-piracy information and recent intelligence and conducted discussions and exchanges about issues related to escort operation.
At about 09:00, four members of the 10th Chinese naval escort taskforce led by Rear Admiral Li Shihong, commander of the Chinese taskforce, boarded the Turkish frigate “Giresun”, the flag ship of
the NATO 508 task fleet, in the eastern water area of the Gulf of Aden. Rear Admiral Tuosun, commander of the NATO 508 task fleet, introduced the anti-piracy efforts of his fleet, recent
information about the sailing of ships, and relevant information about frigate “Giresun”.
At 10:30, ships of the two sides worked together to send personnel of the NATO 508 task fleet onto the warship “Haikou”, command ship of the Chinese naval escort taskforce, by using small boat.
Rear Admiral Li Shihong delivered a welcoming speech and then Liu Haitao, leader of the commanding group, introduced relevant information about the 10th Chinese naval escort taskforce and the
command ship “Haikou”. The two sides exchanged views on anti-piracy and escort experience and visited each other’s ships.
Li Shihong told the reporters that conducting exchanges with counterparts of other countries in the Gulf of Aden and learning from each other’s anti-piracy experience were conducive to fully
showcasing the friendly, open and confident image of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA).
