German Tiger helicopters will deploy later this year to Afghanistan to provide added protection for German troops. The principal role of the Tigers from Combat Helicopter Regiment 36 based is aerial reconnaissance, according to the German Ministry of Defence news release. In addition, the Tigers will provide fire support for troops on the ground, the release adds.
Four of the helicopters will be in Afghanistan by December and the detachment is expected to be fully operational by February.
In addition, the German military is also preparing to send NH90 helicopters to be used for medical evacuation of wounded and injured troops.
