Hamilton Sundstrand has announced that it has been selected by Embraer Defense and Security to supply the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) for the new Embraer KC-390 transport aircraft. The
announcement was made in a 19 January 2012 company statement.
Embraer is developing the KC-390 is twin engine, medium-lift military transport aircraft for the Brazilian Air Force. The aircraft is slated to enter service in 2016, with capability to transport
up to 23 tons of cargo, including wheeled armoured vehicles, support equipment and military personnel. The cargo aircraft is also designed for rapid configuration as a tanker.
Hamilton Sundstrand's Power Systems business has developed the Embraer KC-390 APU from a successful commercial APU and specifically tailored it for military applications.
According to the company, the program is projected to have a value of approximately $300 million.
