Pápa, Hungary | After 26 months of operation and huge efforts by the whole multinational HAW team, Major Vollen (Norway) with his crew on SAC 01 passed the milestone of 5 000 HAW C17 flight hours.

 

The aircraft was on its way towards Afghanistan with Finnish cargo on the afternoon of Friday the 9th September.

 

The previous flight hours’ milestones of HAW are as follows:

• 1 000 flight hours: 12th February, 2010

• 2 000 flight hours: 12th August, 2010

• 3 000 flight hours: 7th December, 2010

• 4 000 flight hours: 1st April, 2011

 

SAC (Strategic Airlift Capability) is a cooperative effort of 12 nations: Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Sweden and the United States. It is stationed in Pápa Air Base, Hungary.

 

Since the delivery of the first aircraft in July 2009, the HAW has now flown over 5 000 FH hours and delivered more than 25 000 tons of cargo and almost 13 000 passengers for the nations over 6 continents including missions to Haiti, Afghanistan, Pakistan, South Africa and Europe.
