As from 29 April 20 11, Commander Pieter Bindt will be the new director of the Dutch Military Intelligence and Security Service (MIVD). He will also be promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral. At present, Commander Bindt holds the post of Deputy Director for Operational Policy with the Defence Staff.


After a previous position in The Hague in the National Plans Division at the Ministry of Defence, he was appointed from September 2004 to January 2007 as commander of HNLMS Rotterdam, the first amphibious transport ship. Since January 2007, he held the post of Commander Netherlands Maritime Force, the deployable operational staff of the navy. In this capacity, at the end of 2009, he took part in Operation Atalanta, the EU’s counterpiracy mission off the coast of Somalia, which he led for four months.


PRESENT DIRECTOR


The present Director of the MIVD, Major General Pieter Cobelens, will be retiring. He has been Director of the MIVD since 28 April 2006.
