PLA Deputy Chief of General Staff Holds Talks With German Secretary of State for Defense

Ma Xiaotian, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), held talks with Rudiger Wolf, the visiting secretary of state for defense of the Federal Republic of Germany, on the morning of April 17, 2012 in Beijing.

Ma Xiaotian said the China-Germany relations are currently moving forward constantly as evidenced by close contacts among high-ranking officials of the two countries, increasingly strengthened political mutual trust and important consensus on fully promoting China-Germany strategic partnership reached by the two sides. The pragmatic cooperation in various fields between the two countries has brought real benefits to their people. In recent years, the relations between the two militaries have made great strides as evidenced by frequent high-level reciprocal visits, smooth operation of mechanism exchanges and constantly strengthened pragmatic cooperation in professional fields. The Chinese side always attaches importance to developing friendly and cooperative relations between the two militaries, and is willing to make joint efforts with the German side to further push forward the relations between the two militaries and add more new connotations to the relations between the two countries.

Wolf said that Germany and China have been maintaining frequent contacts and close cooperation at various levels and in various fields. The German side attaches great importance to its relations with China, and is willing to further push forward the in-depth development of bilateral relations. In recent years, the cooperation between the two militaries has made enormous strides in both quantity and quality. The German side stands ready to work together with the Chinese side to strengthen the pragmatic cooperation in such aspects as high-level reciprocal visits, mechanism exchanges and personnel exchanges, so as to constantly push forward the relations between the two militaries to a new high.
