Sagem SA Matis MP3 optronic aiming sight has been chosen by the European missile manufacturer MBDA to modernize MISTRAL short range surface-to-air missile firing posts in service with the French Army (Armée de Terre). The contract covers the development and production of the sight and its new thermal imager for 186 launching systems to be upgraded according a contract placed by the French procurement agency DGA (Délégation Générale de l´Armement) to MBDA. MATIS MP3 day/night sight provides extended detection and identification ranges, greater operability under different weather conditions and integration of day and night channels in the same system. The system comprise a dual field IR channel with a 3-5 μm VGA detector, dual field daytime channel, electronics that support image processing including under difficult weather conditions, a magnetic compass and a GPS receiver.
