Singapore's Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen visited Thailand between 19 and 20 Jan 2012. Dr Ng was hosted at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters by Thai Acting Minister of Defence, General (GEN) Sathian Permtongin and was briefed on the cooperation between the Royal Thai Armed Forces and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).

Earlier today, Dr Ng called on Thai Prime Minister Her Excellency Yingluck Shinawatra. During his visit, Dr Ng also met with Thai Deputy Prime Minister GEN Yuthasak Sasiprapha who had recently relinquished his defence minister portfolio, and the newly appointed Thai Minister of Defence Air Chief Marhsall (ACM) Sukumpol Suwanatat.

As part of his official programme, Dr Ng also attended the Royal Thai Armed Forces Day Reception and visited the Special Warfare Command in Lop Buri.

Dr Ng's visit underscores the close and longstanding defence ties between Singapore and Thailand. Both armed forces interact regularly through visits, professional exchanges, courses and seminars, as well as exercises. These mutually beneficial interactions serve to enhance the professionalism and camaraderie between the officers and men of the two militaries.
