ADS the UK trade organisation advancing aerospace, defence, security and space industries, will be present at the Defence & Security Equipment International (DSEi) exhibition 2011 to support the 641 UK-based companies exhibiting at the world’s largest fully integrated defence and security exhibition. 126 of these companies will be exhibiting on the UK Pavilion organised and managed by ADS (stand number S5-102, www.adsgroup.org.uk/dsei2011presspack )

The UK Pavilion demonstrates the flexibility of the entire supply chain in UK defence, with more small and medium sized enterprises in the sector than France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Norway combined. This diversity is one of the main reasons for UK Defence’s success, making it the leading defence industry in Europe and only second to the USA worldwide in the defence exports market. It contributes around £35 billion to the UK economy, according to Oxford Economics research, and was responsible for over £7bn worth of exports last year, an increase by £1bn on defence exports in 2009.

The variety of expertise on display at DSEi and recent involvement in both conflict and humanitarian relief demonstrates the global reach and appeal of the UK’s highly successful defence and security industries, with security equipment in particular marked out as a priority for future export growth.

Rees Ward, Chief Executive of ADS, said:

“Strength through diversity is the secret of the UK’s success in defence and security and it is on show in London’s Docklands at DSEi. This also makes the UK an appealing place to do business as well as seek new deals and partnerships. Though this is a trade show on ‘home turf’, the sheer numbers of UK exhibitors and their products shows that our industry is eager to take advantage of the opportunities that an international trade show will bring.

”We have an industry that as a nation we should be proud of – the innovative technologies and solutions that have sprung from the creative minds of our engineers and scientists are to be applauded. Companies such as WFEL have seen their temporary bridges used in tsunami struck Japan earlier this year, while Englands Safety are demonstrating that their innovative life saving tools can be equally applicable from a frigate or Brighton Pier. These are just a small example of our industry’s expertise in niche areas like protection and disaster relief. The UK Pavilion with its 126 exhibitors presents a multitude of security and defence companies which provide protection and peace support capabilities, as well as of course the more traditional areas associated with defence.

“With strong, effective and industry-supported export controls in place the UK can confidently offer quality products and services, marketed in a responsible manner.”

ADS is the trade organisation advancing UK Aerospace, Defence, Security and Space industries with Farnborough International Limited as a wholly-owned subsidiary. ADS also encompasses the British Aviation Group (BAG). It was formed from the merger of the Association of Police and Public Security Suppliers (APPSS), the Defence Manufacturers Association (DMA) and the Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC) in October 2009.
