KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - Technicians from Honeywell International invited coalition forces to a demonstration to help promote greater use of the RQ-16A T-Hawk unmanned aerial vehicle throughout the armed forces during a display of its capabilities at Kandahar Airfield Jan 14. The T-Hawk is currently used for explosive ordinance disposal operations and route clearance, but has the capability to do night and day reconnaissance to provide commanders with critical information.

Harris Corporation Receives $14.4 Million Order to Supply Additional Type-1 Suite B Handheld Tactical Radios to Coalition Forces

ROCHESTER, NY, January 10, 2011 — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has received a $14.4 million order to provide additional RF-310M-HH handheld tactical radios for improved secure communications interoperability.

Harris will deliver RF-310M radios to the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) under the U.S. Department of Defense Coalition Readiness Support Program. The multiband, multi-mission, software-defined RF-310M is the first NSA-certified tactical radio to utilize Type-1 Suite-B encryption algorithms for protecting voice and data transmissions up to SECRET level classification.

Russia, U.S. to discuss Afghan helicopter deal in Washington

MOSCOW, January 21 (RIA Novosti)

 

Talks on the delivery of Russian helicopters to Afghanistan will take place later this month in Washington, a Foreign Ministry official said on Friday. A group of experts, including Foreign Ministry and Rosoboronexport state arms export agency representatives, will meet with U.S. officials, Zamir Kabulov of the ministry's Asia department said.

Russia has said it is ready either to supply 21 Mi-17 multipurpose helicopters under a NATO contract or to be part of a U.S.-run tender to supply helicopters to the Afghan military. The contract is estimated at $400 million, including spare parts.

Afghanistan: de plus en plus d'IED

20 civils tués par un IED ce mercredi dans l'est, 9 tués dimanche dans le nord-est, 6 autres samedi dans le sud: les pertes parmi la population afghane augmentent de façon dramatique. C'est la faute aux IED que les insurgés installent le long des routes. Des routes que les Afghans ont repris à utiliser depuis plusieurs mois, spécialement dans le sud où les effets de l'offensive de l'Isaf les avaient convaincus qu'ils pouvaient circuler, non pas sans risques, mais avec un peu plus de sécurité.Après une hausse de 20% du nombre de civils afghans tués (entre 2009 et 2010, les premières semaines de 2011 ont été particulièrement meurtrières; plusieurs dizaines de civils ont été tués depuis l début du mois de janvier alors qu'ils circulaient sur les grands axes du pays.
