The defence giant has struggled with cuts in both the UK and US military

BAE Systems is to axe 440 managerial posts as the defence giant looks to cut costs in its Military Air & Information business.

 

More than half of those job losses will be in Lancashire, where it employs a total of 11,000 people at its Samlesbury and Warton sites. Another 22 jobs will go at sites in both Surrey and Lincolnshire, and 18 in Dorset.

“It is always regrettable when you have to announce potential job losses. However, we believe that by implementing changes to our management structure we will become a more efficient and effective business, and be better placed to meet the needs of current and potential customers in what is an increasingly competitive market,” said Chris Boardman, Managing Director of BAE Systems MAI.
