Military Strikes Continue Against ISIL Terrorists in Syria and Iraq

 

SOUTHWEST ASIA- On Oct. 7, coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Syria, coalition military forces conducted two strikes using fighter aircraft. Separately in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 18 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using bomber, fighter, attack, fighter-attack and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets.

 

The following is a summary of the strikes conducted against ISIL since the last press release:

 

Syria

• Near Al Hawl, two strikes destroyed an ISIL crude oil collection point and an ISIL oil pump.

 

Iraq

• Near Bayji, two strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL tactical vehicle and three ISIL vehicles.

• Near Kirkuk, two strikes suppressed two ISIL mortar positions.

• Near Mosul, two strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL heavy machine gun, an ISIL fighting position, and suppressed an ISIL mortar position.

• Near Ramadi, five strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed two ISIL buildings, two ISIL tunnels, four ISIL fighting positions, an ISIL mortar position, an ISIL sniper position, and six ISIL home-made explosive facilities.

• Near Sinjar, six strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit, destroyed three separate ISIL vehicle borne improvised explosive device facilities, an ISIL heavy machine gun, two ISIL fighting positions, an ISIL weapons cache, and two ISIL trench systems.

• Near Sultan Abdallah, one strike struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL fighting position.

 

Strike assessments are based on initial reports. All aircraft returned to base safely.

 

The strikes were conducted as part of Operation Inherent Resolve, the operation to eliminate the ISIL terrorist group and the threat they pose to Iraq, Syria, and the wider international community.

 

The destruction of ISIL targets in Syria and Iraq further limits the group's ability to project terror and conduct operations. Coalition nations which have conducted strikes in Iraq include Australia, Canada, France, Jordan, Netherlands, United Kingdom, and the United States. Coalition nations which have conducted strikes in Syria include Australia, Bahrain, Canada, France, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and the U.S.

SOUTHWEST ASIA- On Oct. 6, coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Syria, coalition military forces conducted three strikes using fighter aircraft. Separately in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 20 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using bomber, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets.

 

The following is a summary of the strikes conducted against ISIL since the last press release:

 

Syria

• Near Abu Kamal, three strikes struck two separate ISIL crude oil collection points.

 

Iraq

• Near Habbaniya, one strike destroyed two ISIL rocket rails.

• Near Kirkuk, two strikes struck two separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed two ISIL heavy machine guns and an ISIL fighting position.

• Near Kisik, three strikes suppressed two ISIL rocket positions, an ISIL mortar position, and an ISIL sniper position.

• Near Makhmur, one strike suppressed an ISIL heavy machine gun position.

• Near Mosul, three strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed three ISIL heavy machine guns and three ISIL fighting positions and suppressed an ISIL rocket position and an ISIL mortar position.

• Near Manbij, one strike struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL building.

 

Iraq

• Near Al Huwayjah, three strikes struck two separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed three ISIL fighting positions and suppressed an ISIL mortar position.

Military Airstrikes Continue Against ISIL Terrorists in Syria and Iraq

 

SOUTHWEST ASIA – On Sep. 15, coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Syria, coalition military forces conducted three airstrikes using fighter-attack and remotely piloted aircraft. Separately in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 11 airstrikes coordinated with the government of Iraq using attack, bomber, fighter, fighter-attack and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets.

 

The following is a summary of the strikes conducted against ISIL since the last press release:

 

Syria

• Near Mar’a, one airstrike struck an ISIL tactical unit.

• Near Abu Kamal, two airstrikes struck two ISIL oil field wellheads.

 

Iraq

• Near Al Baghdadi, one airstrike destroyed three ISIL rocket rails.

• Near Bayji, two airstrikes struck one large and one small ISIL tactical units, and destroyed three ISIL vehicles.

• Near Fallujah, one airstrike struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed three ISIL rockets.

• Near Hit, one airstrike struck an ISIL tactical unit.

• Near Kirkuk, one airstrike struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL fighting position.

• Near Mosul, two airstrikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL heavy machine gun and 12 ISIL fighting positions.

• Near Sinjar, two airstrikes struck two ISIL tactical units and destroyed an ISIL motor tube and three ISIL fighting positions.

• Near Al Hasakah, two airstrikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL armored personnel carrier.

• Near Dayr Az Zawr, one airstrike struck an ISIL crude oil collection point.

 

Iraq

• Near Al Baghdadi, one airstrike struck an ISIL large tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL building.

Military Airstrikes Continue Against ISIL Terrorists in Syria and Iraq

 

SOUTHWEST ASIA – On Sep. 8, coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Syria, coalition military forces conducted three airstrikes using attack, bomber fighter and remotely piloted aircraft. Separately in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 14 airstrikes coordinated with the government of Iraq using attack, bomber, fighter, fighter-attack and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets.

 

In coordination with the Government of Iraq, the Coalition conducted airstrikes against an ISIL operating base located near Ramadi.

 

“Coalition strikes targeted and destroyed a large Daesh staging facility that housed weapons caches, combat equipment and included a multitude of prepared defensive positions” said Col. Michael Indovina, spokesman, CJTF-OIR. “This facility was a key Daesh command and supply hub in the Ramadi region and was being used to store large amounts of homemade explosives, as well as VBIED components. Destroying this facility enables Iraqi security forces activities in and around Ramadi while degrading Daesh command and control capability throughout the area.”

En juillet 2015, le colonel Olivier a pris la relève du capitaine de vaisseau Yann, devenant ainsi le numéro 2 des opérations du CJTF-OIR (1). Ils nous expliquent le quotidien du NR, le représentant national français au Koweït pour l’opération Chammal et adjoint opération à l’état-major de la coalition pour l’opération Inherent Resolve.

 

Tout d'abord, qu'est-ce que le CJTF-OIR ? "C'est l'état-major d'une force multinationale interarmées dont le rôle consiste à organiser la lutte contre Daech. Et ici au Koweït, dans cet état-major, chaque fonction de l'opération est précisément identifiée entre les opérations en cours, la planification, la logistique, les moyens SIC d'information et de communication, les fonctions personnels, finances, etc. Chacune de ces fonctions est identifiée par un numéro, précédé de 2 lettres, CJ, pour "Combined Joint", ce qui en anglais signifie respectivement "interalliés" ou "multinationales" et "interarmées", Terre, Air et Marine" précise le capitaine de vaisseau Yann. Et le colonel Olivier de reprendre :"Les numéros vont donc codifier les fonctions, comme vient de le préciser Yann. Ici au Koweït, je suis, à la suite de Yann, le CJ3 Deputy Commander du CJTF, le commandant en second (Deputy) pour toutes les opérations multinationales interarmées, le chiffre 3 étant le code pour les opérations. Cette numérotation des fonctions, vous la retrouvez partout, dans toutes les armées occidentales, c'est notre langage de militaire".

 

Ces représentants nationaux occupent donc une place à très haute responsabilité dans la coalition, pour l'opération Chammal. Ils décrivent leurs tâches plus en détails: "Il y a d'abord l'aspect fonctionnel, précise le colonel Olivier, s'assurer de la cohésion de la coalition, maintenir son niveau de connaissance de la situation pour suppléer le chef CJ3 en cas d'absence, représenter le chef CJ3 aux conférences de la coalition tant dans la préparation que dans la réalisation, valider les ordres particuliers d'opération, les "Frago" dans notre jargon, vers les IRKS (2) et les MESF (3), participer aux réunions opérationnelles ouvertes à ces mêmes IRKS et MESF, participer aux réunions du comité restreint CJ3 comprenant le chef CJ3, le chef JOC (4) et le chef manœuvre future, assister au point de situation quotidien du "CJ35", et puis, reprend le capitaine de vaisseau Yann, il y a le fond, le travail dans la durée, le sens du terme CJ3, les opérations interarmées et tout notre travail de soutien aux FSI, les Forces de sécurité irakiennes. Notre but, notre mission in fine, au-delà de la défaite de Daech qui constitue au quotidien notre objectif opérationnel, ce sur quoi nous réfléchissons avec nos camarades CJ5-Planification "planification à long terme", en étroite collaboration avec les officiels irakiens, c'est, au final, de permettre et de faciliter au mieux la reconstruction de l'Irak".

 

Tous les deux sont rompus aux opérations extérieures et aux participations multinationales : FORPRONU (Yougoslavie), KFOR (Kosovo), Héraclès(Afghanistan), Licorne (Côte d’Ivoire), Épervier (Tchad), Orcaella (Birmanie), FINUL (Liban), Unified Response (Haïti), CTF150 (lutte contre le terrorisme). Au CJTF-OIR, ces militaires expérimentés ont la double mission de faire partie des cadres du premier cercle de l'état-major interallié de la coalition et faire valoir la position de la France au sein de la coalition, et de constituer le point de contact et le relai indispensable entre le CJTF et les instances françaises de l'opération Chammal dans le golfe arabo-persique, à Paris ou à Tampa. À cela s’ajoute la mise en avant la participation française de Chammal dans l'opération Inherent Resolve. Et ils conservent en tête, en permanence, l’objectif à long terme d’un Irak stable, reconstruit sur des bases solides.

 

Le NR, chef des éléments français insérés au CJTF et de l'élément de soutien national, commande une douzaine de militaires français. S’ils pensent au slogan OIR « One Mission, Many Nations », ils sont avant tout les fers de lance de l'opération Chammal.

SOUTHWEST ASIA – On Aug. 25, coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Syria, coalition military forces conducted two airstrikes using remotely piloted aircraft. Separately in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 18 airstrikes coordinated with the government of Iraq using attack, bomber, fighter, fighter-attack and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets.

 

The following is a summary of the strikes conducted against ISIL since the last press release:

 

Syria

• Near Ayn Isa, one airstrike struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL vehicle.

• Near Kobani, one airstrike struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL vehicle.

 

Iraq

• Near Bayji, two airstrikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and terrain features denying ISIL a tactical advantage.

• Near Fallujah, one airstrike destroyed an ISIL mortar resupply vehicle.

• Near Mosul, three airstrikes struck three ISIL tactical units.

• Near Ramadi, two airstrikes struck two ISIL tactical units and destroyed three ISIL buildings and an ISIL mortar system.

• Near Sinjar, three airstrikes struck two ISIL tactical units and an ISIL mortar firing position and destroyed three ISIL fighting positions and an ISIL anti-aircraft artillery piece.

• Near Tuz, seven airstrikes struck an ISIL tactical unit, multiple ISIL fighting positions and terrain features denying ISIL a tactical advantage and destroyed 12 ISIL fighting positions, two ISIL vehicles an ISIL heavy machine gun and an ISIL weapons cache.

 

Airstrike assessments are based on initial reports. All aircraft returned to base safely.

 

The strikes were conducted as part of Operation Inherent Resolve, the operation to eliminate the ISIL terrorist group and the threat they pose to Iraq, Syria and the wider international community.

 

The destruction of ISIL targets in Syria and Iraq further limits the group's ability to project terror and conduct operations. Coalition nations which have conducted airstrikes in Iraq include Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Jordan, Netherlands, United Kingdom and United States. Coalition nations which have conducted airstrikes in Syria include Bahrain, Canada, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and the U.S.

Que serait aujourd'hui une opération extérieure sans moyens de transmissions, sans SIC (systèmes d’information et de communications)?

 

Plus encore dans le cadre de l’opération Chammal où les 700 militaires français sont répartis sur plusieurs sites éloignés les uns des autres, dont notamment le détachement français du CJTF-OIR [1] au Koweït.

 

Commandée par le capitaine de vaisseau Yann, l’unité française de Chammal au Koweït intégrée dans le CJTF, dépend, pour ses transmissions nationales, de trois hommes, transmetteurs aguerris et expérimentés. Leur mission ne se limite pas aux transmissions, les militaires français sont aussi responsables des réseaux et des ordinateurs.

 

Le sergent Pascal est l’administrateur des réseaux "ordinateur", le sergent Nicolas est spécialiste informatique, l'adjudant Romain a quant à lui la responsabilité des réseaux satellitaires. Tous les trois sont des vétérans des moyens SIC, passés par l'école des transmissions de Rennes-Cesson Sévigné, avec plusieurs opérations extérieures à leur actif : Côte d'Ivoire, Harmattan, Barkhane, Serval, Proterre aux Antilles, et maintenant Chammal.

 

Le sergent Pascal gère la téléphonie chiffrée et non chiffrée, les routeurs, et les réseaux informatiques ainsi que le réseau de conférence vidéo. Le sergent Nicolas a en charge, en parallèle du sergent Pascal, les ordinateurs, les serveurs, le câblage, une quinzaine de "stations", tandis que l'adjudant Romain assure l'installation et l'exploitation des antennes, reliées aux satellites de transmission des armées, Syracuse. Il s'occupe également du "MCO" (maintien en condition opérationnelle) de niveau 1, c'est-à-dire des réparations assez simples, ne nécessitant pas d'importante main d'œuvre, comme le changement de certaines pièces.

 

A tour de rôle, ils prennent la permanence, pour assurer une présence en continu des SIC dans la tente française. Ils sont unanimes : "le cœur du métier, c'est sur le terrain, et le terrain c'est l'opex". Et chacun rajoute que si sur d'autres théâtres, ils étaient cantonnés à un domaine "ici pour Chammal, il faut être polyvalent et connaître un minimum du travail de nos coéquipiers. La mission est prioritaire. S'il arrive quelque chose la nuit, quand on est seul, il faut être à même de pouvoir commencer la réparation en attendant l'arrivée du spécialiste dédié".

 

De leurs relations avec leurs camarades des autres pays de la coalition se trouvant également dans le camp, ils restent discrets, mission oblige : "Ici, il n'y a pas les 60 nations de la coalition, néanmoins, juste à côté de nous se trouvent nos collègues SIC italiens, un peu plus loin les australiens, les canadiens, les anglais et les espagnols et bien sûr à un autre endroit du camp, les américains. C'est un vrai challenge d'arriver à échanger et de confronter nos méthodes de travail. Les américains viennent pratiquement tous les jours pour "la mise à la clé" de nos moyens de téléphonie utilisés pour les communications entre pays du CJTF, car nous ne gérons pas les moyens de la force, uniquement les moyens français".

 

Lancée depuis le 19 septembre 2014, l’opération Chammal mobilise 700 militaires. Elle vise, à la demande du gouvernement irakien et en coordination avec les alliés de la France présents dans la région, à assurer un appui (aérien et formation) aux forces irakiennes dans la lutte contre le groupe terroriste autoproclamé Daech. Le dispositif complet est actuellement structuré autour de douze avions de chasse de l’armée de l’Air (six Rafale et six Mirage2000D) et d’un avion de patrouille maritime Atlantique 2. Il comprend également des militaires projetés à Bagdad et Erbil pour la formation et le conseil des militaires irakiens.

Irak : les combattants kurdes font reculer l'Etat islamique près de Mossoul

L'organisation Etat islamique (EI) a perdu plusieurs positions autour de la ville clé de Mossoul, en Irak, aux mains des djihadistes depuis le 10 juin 2014, a indiqué l'armée américaine, lundi 9 février.

 

Les combattants kurdes soutenus par la coalition internationale conduite par les Etats-Unis ont repris du terrain aux djihadistes et « se sont emparés de trois postes avancés sur la rive gauche du Tigre au nord de Mossoul », précise le commandement américain interarmées qui dirige les raids contre l'EI (CJTF-OIR). L'assaut kurde a été soutenu par quatre raids de la coalition entre vendredi et dimanche, a-t-il ajouté. Des conseillers militaires de la coalition ont aussi fourni aux Kurdes « une aide en matière de renseignements ».
