Photo: Here’s How You Stop Green on Blue in Afghanistan

March 8, 2014. David Pugliese - Defence Watch

The so-called Green on Blue attacks in Afghanistan pose a danger to ISAF troops. During my recent trip to the Kabul training centre, the French commandos accompanying me, had an answer to that issue.

We were filming the Afghan National Army’s new armoured vehicle unit, the Mobile Strike Force, for a new documentary (details about that below)

The French commandos were there for protection if the ANA crews tried anything against the ISAF trainers or foreign journalists. Each French soldier had a rifle equipped with a anti-tank grenade and all were ready to fire at the Afghan vehicles if the heavily armed turrets point in the direction of the foreigners.

“We don’t expect a problem, but I told them if those guns swing around towards us then we’ll kill them,” a French officer told me.

For those who are interested, some of the Mobile Strike Force footage is included in the documentary, Afghanistan: Outside the Wire: End Game, which aired Friday night and continues over this weekend.

It takes a look at Canada’s achievements in Afghanistan and what the future holds for that country. It is being broadcast on the Cable Public Affairs Channel (CPAC).

Myself and former Australian soldier Sasha Uzunov were cameramen for the documentary, which was filmed in Afghanistan in December. The documentary features Esprit de Corps publisher Scott Taylor and is a sequel to his previous documentary Afghanistan: Outside the Wire, which also aired on CPAC.
