For the first time in company history, Oshkosh Defense, LLC, an Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE: OSK) company, will be exhibiting at the Dubai Airshow, November 8 – 12, 2015, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Oshkosh offers a full range of leading-edge military, security and airport fire fighting vehicles to serve customers throughout the Middle East Region, including the highly transportable Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle (L-ATV), which was recently selected by the U.S. Army and Marine Corps to replace aging up-armored HMMWVs.

 

Today’s conflicts demand military vehicles with the protection, mobility and transportability to serve a full range of missions and unpredictable environments. The Oshkosh L-ATV combines proven automotive technologies, Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP)-level protection and extreme mobility in a light-weight, highly-transportable profile. The L-ATV offers armed forces around the globe next-generation capabilities that no other vehicle can match.

 

In August 2015, after extensive U.S. Government testing and evaluation, the U.S. Army and Marine Corps selected the Oshkosh L-ATV as the winner of its Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) program. Under the JLTV contract, Oshkosh will produce and deliver up to 17,000 JLTVs for the U.S. Army and Marine Corps. The JLTV program is scheduled to achieve full rate production within three years.

 

“As future battlefields generate new, asymmetrical threats, troops will require a scalable, protected all-terrain vehicle to perform their missions – wherever they may be,” said Bill Mooney, regional vice president of Middle East and North Africa for Oshkosh Defense. “The Oshkosh L-ATV provides an entirely new generation of light vehicles with unprecedented levels of off-road mobility, transportability and survivability. The extensive testing and evaluation proves, without a doubt, that it’s the world’s most capable tactical wheeled vehicle.”

 

Roughly one-third lighter than the Oshkosh MRAP All-Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV), at the same protection level, the L-ATV weighs less than 6,350 kg at curb weight. The Oshkosh L-ATV has the latest in automotive technologies as well as the Oshkosh Core1080™ crew protection system, which is an occupant-centric, comprehensive systems engineering approach that considers every inch of the vehicle with respect to crew protection during blast events.

 

The L-ATV is equipped with the TAK-4i™ intelligent independent suspension system; the next-generation of Oshkosh’s advanced TAK-4® independent suspension system. The TAK-4i allows the L-ATV to deliver superior ride quality at speeds 70 percent faster than today’s top-performing tactical wheeled vehicles. Additionally, the TAK-4i can be raised and lowered using interior operator controls to meet sea, air and land transportability requirements. The L-ATV can be air transported internally by a C-130, C-5, C-17 or externally by CH-47 and CH-53.

 

Oshkosh has produced and sustained more than 150,000 tactical wheeled vehicles for the United States and its allies. Oshkosh serves armed forces around the globe by offering a full portfolio of heavy, medium, MRAP, airport rescue fire fighting (ARFF), and light vehicles. OSHKOSH, Wis. -- Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE: OSK), reached a milestone in the U.S. Department of Defense’s (DoD’s) Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) program by completing Net-Ready testing with the Oshkosh Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle (L-ATV).

 

“We are pleased that our JLTV has demonstrated its capability to transfer critical data from onboard systems to external networks during this testing and evaluation process,” said U.S. Marine Corps Colonel (Retired), John Bryant, senior vice president, Defense Programs for Oshkosh Defense. “This is another important milestone in what has been an exemplary procurement program by the DoD, which will provide the protection and mobility our service men and women need for future missions.”

 

A core element in developing the next-generation light vehicle is fully supporting the execution of operational activities and information exchanges identified in DoD Enterprise Architecture, while satisfying the JLTV’s technical requirements for the transition to Net-Centric military operations. Oshkosh recently completed this testing at the Electronic Proving Grounds at Fort Huachuca, Arizona – the United States Army’s developmental test center for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber and Intelligence (C5I) capabilities.

 

Oshkosh Defense has successfully completed every milestone to date throughout the JLTV program’s Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase, including the design understanding review, manufacturing readiness review and on-time delivery of 22 prototype vehicles 12 months after the start of the EMD phase. As an Original Equipment Manufacturer, Oshkosh has an in-house team of C4ISR experts who designed the C4ISR solution for the fully integrated JLTV EMD prototype vehicles it has delivered for the program.

 

Oshkosh is providing vehicle training and support throughout the 14 months of robust military testing during the EMD phase. The JLTV is expected to fill a significant capability gap that exists between larger MRAP vehicles and the aging High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV) fleet.

 

Leveraging a 97-year history of innovation, Oshkosh has developed a state-of-the-art vehicle that redefines protection, extreme off-road mobility and the very meaning of the term “mission-ready.”

Oshkosh’s JLTV platform completes net-ready testing

Oshkosh Defense has completed net-ready testing for the light combat tactical all-terrain vehicle (L-ATV), which is being developed for the US Department of Defense's (DoD) joint light tactical vehicle (JLTV) programme.

 

The testing was carried out at the Electronic Proving Grounds at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, US, which serves as the US Army's developmental test centre for command, control, communications, computers, cyber and intelligence (C5I) capabilities.

 

Oshkosh Defense Programmes senior vice-president US Marine Corps colonel (retired) John Bryant said the testing highlighted the Oshkosh JLTV's capability to transfer critical data from onboard systems to external networks.

 

"This is another important milestone in what has been an exemplary procurement programme by the DoD, which will provide the protection and mobility our service men and women need for future missions," Bryant said.

 

JLTV solutions are needed to support the execution of operational activities and information exchanges identified in the DoD's enterprise and architecture, and also the transition to net-centric military operations.

 

Oshkosh has developed and delivered 22 JLTV prototypes as part of the programme's $56.4m engineering, manufacturing and development (EMD) contract, awarded by the US Army in August 2012. In addition, the company is providing vehicle training and support.

 

Manufactured on the Oshkosh's active manufacturing line, the JLTV prototypes include a four-door multipurpose variant and two-door utility variant.

 

Both versions feature common crew protection and advanced automotive systems, as well as the patented Oshkosh TAK-4i intelligent independent suspension system, which provides enhanced levels of protection and off-road performance in a light vehicle.

 

The JLTV programme is aimed at replacing the US Army and Marine Corps' fleet of ageing high-mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicles (HMMWVs), which have been in active service for more than 25 years.

 

Lockheed Martin and AM General are the other two companies bidding for the JLTV contract.

OSHKOSH, Wis. -- Global military forces require a mobile, protected and lightweight vehicle to navigate the unpredictable combination of terrain, tactics and threats they face in current and future missions. Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation, is ready to meet that need with the Oshkosh Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle (L-ATV).

 

The company is exhibiting the vehicle for the first time in Europe at the DSEI 2013 defence and security exhibition, Sept. 10-13 in London.

 

The Oshkosh L-ATV can help fill a vital capabilities gap for protection and mobility that global militaries face with their current light-vehicle fleets. Many historical light vehicle fleets, such as the High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), Eagles and Land Rovers, are nearing the end of their useful life cycle and were never designed to accommodate the armour and equipment that is needed for modern conflicts.

 

“The ability to operate on a battlefield with a wide range of threats and terrain is increasingly critical for forces around the globe,” said John Urias, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president of Oshkosh Defense. “The L-ATV was specifically designed to fulfil that mission. The platform offers unprecedented levels of protection and off-road mobility to navigate even the harshest environments.”

 

The L-ATV’s superior mobility is largely attributable to the Oshkosh TAK-4i intelligent independent suspension system. The TAK-4i system expands on the success of the proven TAK-4® system to deliver more than 50 centimetres of independent wheel travel – a 25 per cent increase over currently fielded vehicles. The TAK-4i system enables the L-ATV to shift power to the wheels that are in contact with the ground to provide control and manoeuvrability on dangerous terrain.

 

The L-ATV offers advanced troop protection against IEDs and other battlefield threats with a scalable armoured capsule optimized for protection, weight and mobility. The capsule’s modular, adaptable design can accept multiple armour configurations, allowing the vehicle to accept future enhancements.

 

Oshkosh Defense can deliver L-ATV fleets with fully integrated and tested command, control, communications and computer (C4) equipment. This includes factoring the mechanical, electrical and user interfaces into the vehicle design process to optimize overall system performance and the user experience. Oshkosh performs C4 installation in-house, either during the production process or after, to reduce time and costs. Oshkosh integrated C4 systems into the Oshkosh M-ATV, which contributed to the vehicle being designed, produced and delivered at a rate of more than 1,000 per month – all in less than one year.

 

“We blended the latest design and proven technologies in the L-ATV to create a vehicle with superior performance and reduced sustainment costs,” added Serge Buchakjian, senior vice president and general manager of international programs for Oshkosh Defense. “Our global life-cycle support offerings, from training and parts supply to maintenance support and remanufacturing, help keep vehicle fleets at peak readiness anywhere the mission requires.”

 

Virtual Training Improves Fleet Readiness and Reduces Costs

 

In addition to the L-ATV, Oshkosh will display a technology kiosk at DSEI featuring the Oshkosh Virtual Trainer Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) module. The Oshkosh Virtual Trainer provides life-like training in a safe, virtual environment, while providing troops the skills they need to perform actual tasks. Oshkosh currently offers the Virtual Trainer for multiple HEMTT configurations and has found it can provide a 20 per cent or more cost savings compared to a traditional classroom-only training approach.

 

The Oshkosh Virtual Trainer is part of Oshkosh’s Integrated Product Support (IPS) offerings, a comprehensive vehicle-service portfolio designed to optimize fleet readiness and life-cycle costs. Oshkosh IPS offerings include training services, instruction manuals, maintenance and repairs, parts supply, and fleet restoration services. Oshkosh has been executing a successful 20-year service plan for the British Armed Forces’ Wheeled Tanker program since 2003. This has included the development of training manuals, maintenance support and integrated logistics support for the fleet of approximately 350 vehicles.

OSHKOSH, Wis. -- The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation, a contract for the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) program’s Engineering, Manufacturing and Development (EMD) phase. The JLTV program aims to replace many of the U.S. military’s aged HMMWVs with a lightweight vehicle that offers greater protection, mobility and transportability.

 

“The JLTV program is critical to supporting our troops who stand in harm’s way and deserve the best equipment that industry can provide,” said John Urias, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president, Oshkosh Defense. “The Oshkosh JLTV solution will allow the Army and Marine Corps to provide unprecedented levels of protection and off-road mobility in a light vehicle – so that their troops can accomplish their missions and return home safely.”

 

JLTV is managed by the Joint U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps program, under the leadership of the U.S. Army's Program Executive Office for Combat Support and Combat Service Support (PEO CS&CSS). Under the contract, Oshkosh will deliver 22 Oshkosh-designed and manufactured JLTV prototypes within 365 days of contract award, and support government testing and evaluation of the prototypes.

 

Since 2006, Oshkosh has invested significantly in independent R&D to develop its JLTV solution. Oshkosh employed a generational product development approach that aligned to rapidly evolving technical requirements. As a result, the Oshkosh JLTV delivers the latest automotive technologies, an advanced crew protection system, and a next generation TAK-4i™ independent suspension system to achieve JLTV performance at an affordable price. The Oshkosh JLTV is fully tested, ready for initial production, and meets or exceeds the requirements of the JLTV program.

The L-ATV aims to replace aging Light Utility Vehicle, Wheeled (LUVW) and special operations vehicle fleets and give troops greater off-road mobility, protection, speed and transportability capabilities.

The U.S. Army and Marine Corps selected the Oshkosh L-ATV in August 2012 as one of three vehicles to be evaluated in the Engineering, Manufacturing and Development (EMD) phase of the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) programme, which focuses on replacing the HMMWV fleet. As part of the JLTV programme, Oshkosh will deliver 22 L-ATVs in August 2013 for U.S. Government testing and evaluation.

 

Also at CANSEC, the company will be displaying the Oshkosh Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) A4 Light Equipment Transporter and the Oshkosh Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) 5-ton wrecker, as well as demonstrating a new module of the Oshkosh Virtual Trainer for the HEMTT Load Handling System (LHS).

 

Oshkosh Defense leadership will be available at CANSEC to discuss the company’s commitment to Canada, as well its full range of vehicle, technology and service offerings, at indoor booth #1001 in The Ernst & Young Centre (formerly the CE Centre) and outdoor booth #2029 today through May 30.
