Russia will sign contract on Mi-35 deliveries to Afghanistan in October

Oct 9, 2015 By Dylan Vosman - defence-blog.com

Russia will sign contract on Mi-35 deliveries to Afghanistan in October. The Afghan government intends to buy Mi-35 attack helicopters from Russia in a bid to boost the capabilities of the Afghan Air Force. The Afghan Air Force received the first six Armed MD-530s last month with the NATO Train, Assist, Advise Command-Air and 438th Air Expeditionary Wing, saying that the armed MD-530s will increase the Afghan Air Force aerial fires capability. Armed Mi-17s and MD-530s give the Afghan Air Force six times the number of armed aircraft for Fighting Season 2015 as compared to last fighting season, which only employed five Mi-35s.

Pakistan negotiating MI-35 helicopter deal‏ with Russia: envoy

June 11th, 2014 defencetalk.com

Pakistan has placed an order to Russia for purchase of the latest MI-35 Helicopters for multipurpose use including fighting terrorism, Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Alexey Y. Dedov told a news conference at the Russian embassy in Islamabad.

“The deal is still being negotiated between Russian and Pakistani defense officials and hopefully would be finalized soon,” Dedov told the media.

The Russian envoy said there has been never any ban on the sale of Russian military equipment to Pakistan.

“There is ongoing cooperation with Pakistan in the field of defense and counter-terrorism and security,” Dedov said.

He also informed the media that Adviser on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz would be visiting the Russian city of Kazan to participate in the “5th International Meeting of High-Level Officials Responsible for Security Matters from 18-20 June, 2014.

Sartaj Aziz would also meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during the visit, the envoy said.

Dedov also reiterated the desire of the Russian Federation to strengthen its bilateral relations with Pakistan in all spheres.

The Russian envoy while stating concern over rising incidents of terrorism in Pakistan, expressed sympathies with the victims and offered cooperation to Pakistan in countering terrorism.

“Presence of Uzeb, Tajik, ETIM militants in Pakistan’s tribal areas are posing a security threat to the entire region and collective efforts are needed to tackle this menace,” Dedov remarked.

He also feared that after the withdrawal of Nato troops from Afghanistan, security would be a big challenge for the Afghan National Security Forces.

Iraq Takes Collection of First 4 Russian Helicopter Gunships

DUBAI, November 8 (RIA Novisti)

Iraq took collection Thursday night of the first four Russian-made Mi-35 helicopter gunships sold to the Middle Eastern nation as part of a multibillion dollar weapons deal.

Iraqi leader Nuri al-Maliki posted pictures of the aircraft on his official Facebook page.

Abbas al-Bayati, a lawmaker with al-Maliki’s ruling faction in parliament, told RIA Novosti that Iraq expects to receive a consignment of around 40 Mi-35 and Mi-28NE attack helicopters by the end of the year.

Iraq is looking to use the newly bought military materiel to bolster its borders and for use in antiterrorist operations.

Russia is to supply 48 Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft missile gun systems in addition to the helicopters under a $4.3 billion agreement on cooperation in the defense and technology sector signed in 2012.

Russia has under the framework of that deal also committed to supplying Iraq with Ka-52 single-seat attack helicopters.

The arms deal had looked to be at risk earlier this year amid speculation that Iraqi authorities were considering withdrawing from the arrangement over suspicions of corruption.

Anatoly Isaykin, general director of state-run arms holding company Rosoboronexport, denied in February that the contract had been canceled, however, and said only that it had yet to enter into force.
