NATO To Offer €1 Billion in Business Opportunities

Sep. 25, 2013 - by JULIAN HALE – Defense News

MONS — A missile defense contract will kick off a series of NATO business opportunities expected to be worth more than €1 billion (US $1.35 billion) over 18 months.

The NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) announced the opportunities during a conference with industry at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) last week.

The first contract, for missile defense systems engineering and testing, will be worth €70 million and will be awarded in the second half of 2014. NCIA communications manager Michal Olejarnik said 85 companies intend to bid on the contract.

“The work will be done at NATO’s Ballistic Missile Defence program office and is being done so that national interceptor and radar can work together,” he said.

Companies will be able to keep an eye out for more opportunities by watching the NCIA website or the @NCIAAcquisition Twitter feed.

The largest amount of money, €803 million, has been earmarked for communication infrastructure services. An additional €166.5 million will go toward core enterprise services, which includes data management services, work related to the NATO information portal and IT modernization.

Other anticipated contracts include €6 million for chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear defense, €20 million for future maritime information services, €8 million for countering improvised explosives devices, €6.7 million for functional services for electronic warfare and €8 million for on cybersecurity.
