Oshkosh Resumes Work on Joint Light Tactical Vehicle

The U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) Life Cycle Management Command (LCMC) has directed Oshkosh Defense, LLC, an Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE: OSK) company, to resume work on the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) production contract. The JLTV program fills a critical capability gap for the U.S. Army and Marine Corps by replacing a large portion of the legacy HMMWV fleet with a light vehicle that provides unprecedented protection, off-road mobility and transportability.

 

“We are pleased that the JLTV production contract, awarded to Oshkosh in August, is now moving forward to deliver the world’s most capable light tactical vehicle,” said U.S. Army Major General (Retired) John M. Urias, executive vice president of Oshkosh Corporation and president of Oshkosh Defense. “Our JLTV is designed to safely transport Soldiers and Marines as they perform their missions ‘outside the wire’ – providing unprecedented off-road speed and mobility on future battlefields that could be virtually anywhere in the world.”

 

The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) dismissed Lockheed Martin’s protest earlier today based on Lockheed’s notice that it intends to file a protest in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. Shortly thereafter, the U.S. Army lifted the stop work order and instructed Oshkosh to resume performance of the JLTV contract. According to the JLTV production contract, Oshkosh will begin delivering vehicles within the next 10 months, reaching an expected total volume of nearly 17,000 vehicles, as well as kits and sustainment services over an eight-year period.

 

“The Army conducted a thorough, methodical procurement including exhaustive testing and evaluation to ensure our troops get the best vehicle,” said Urias. “The Oshkosh team and our employees will immediately resume work to deliver JLTVs to our Soldiers and Marines.

 

“The JLTV program fills a critical gap in the U.S. military’s current tactical vehicle line-up,” said Urias. “The Oshkosh JLTV will give our troops new levels of payload, performance and protection in a platform that was engineered to evolve as new technologies emerge and our adversaries’ tactics change.”

 

In designing its JLTV, Oshkosh leveraged its extensive experience producing and sustaining more than 150,000 heavy, medium and protected MRAP vehicles for the U.S. and its allies. The JLTV Family of Vehicles is comprised of two seat and four seat variants, as well as a companion trailer (JLTV-T). The two seat variant has one base vehicle platform, the Utility (JLTV-UTL). The four seat variant has two base vehicle platforms, the General Purpose (JLTV-GP) and the Close Combat Weapons Carrier (JLTV-CCWC).

Oshkosh offers a full range of leading-edge military, security and airport fire fighting vehicles to serve customers throughout the Middle East Region, including the highly transportable Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle (L-ATV), which was recently selected by the U.S. Army and Marine Corps to replace aging up-armored HMMWVs.

In August 2015, after extensive U.S. Government testing and evaluation, the U.S. Army and Marine Corps selected the Oshkosh L-ATV as the winner of its Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) program. Under the JLTV contract, Oshkosh will produce and deliver up to 17,000 JLTVs for the U.S. Army and Marine Corps. The JLTV program is scheduled to achieve full rate production within three years.

 

“As future battlefields generate new, asymmetrical threats, troops will require a scalable, protected all-terrain vehicle to perform their missions – wherever they may be,” said Bill Mooney, regional vice president of Middle East and North Africa for Oshkosh Defense. “The Oshkosh L-ATV provides an entirely new generation of light vehicles with unprecedented levels of off-road mobility, transportability and survivability. The extensive testing and evaluation proves, without a doubt, that it’s the world’s most capable tactical wheeled vehicle.”

 

Roughly one-third lighter than the Oshkosh MRAP All-Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV), at the same protection level, the L-ATV weighs less than 6,350 kg at curb weight. The Oshkosh L-ATV has the latest in automotive technologies as well as the Oshkosh Core1080™ crew protection system, which is an occupant-centric, comprehensive systems engineering approach that considers every inch of the vehicle with respect to crew protection during blast events.

 

The L-ATV is equipped with the TAK-4i™ intelligent independent suspension system; the next-generation of Oshkosh’s advanced TAK-4® independent suspension system. The TAK-4i allows the L-ATV to deliver superior ride quality at speeds 70 percent faster than today’s top-performing tactical wheeled vehicles. Additionally, the TAK-4i can be raised and lowered using interior operator controls to meet sea, air and land transportability requirements. The L-ATV can be air transported internally by a C-130, C-5, C-17 or externally by CH-47 and CH-53.

October 12-14, 2015. The M-ATV 6×6 Technology Demonstrator builds upon the protection and off-road mobility performance of the battle-proven M-ATVs, while providing more interior volume for up to 15 soldiers, as well as greater payload capacity and all-wheel steer for exceptional maneuverability.

Oshkosh Introduces New Advanced Driver Assist Systems

At AUSA, Oshkosh is also introducing the Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) kits for any vehicle platform to help troops operate their vehicles safely in harsh conditions and difficult terrain. The Oshkosh ADAS kits use intelligent technologies to help increase driver control and response – during both peacetime and combat operations. The Oshkosh ADAS has three levels of performance:

  • ADAS Tier 1: A camera-based technology that allows the vehicle to see where drivers cannot. Active alerts enhance driver awareness to mitigate collisions.
  • ADAS Tier 2: Electronic Stability Control kit and radar-based technologies assist drivers with an additional layer of active safety. Tier 2 includes Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) to maintain a following gap with a lead vehicle and Collision Mitigation Braking (CMB) to help slow the vehicle if a crash is imminent.
  • ADAS Tier 3: Equips drivers with comprehensive technologies for accident avoidance. Tier 3 combines all of the technologies from Tier 1 & Tier 2, making it Oshkosh’s most comprehensive safety solution.

The winning JLTV solution from Oshkosh, M-ATV 6×6 Technology Demonstrator and Global Integrated Product Support (GIPS) kiosk will be showcased on the second floor at AUSA in the Oshkosh Defense booth #6643. Le Pentagone a annoncé mardi avoir choisi le constructeur américain Oshkosh pour fabriquer le futur successeur du célèbre Humvee, le véhicule à tout faire de l’armée américaine, dans le cadre d’un contrat initial de 6,7 milliards de dollars.

 

Le Pentagone a ainsi écarté le géant de l’aéronautique et de l’armement Lockheed Martin et AM General, le fabricant du Humvee.

 

Le processus de sélection du futur « véhicule léger tactique » a été mené par l’armée de terre américaine (US Army), conjointement avec le corps des Marines, selon un communiqué de l’US Army.

 

La production est prévue pour commencer au premier trimestre 2016. L’armée de terre et les Marines doivent acheter 17.000 véhicules dans une première phase du contrat d’un montant de 6,7 milliards de dollars, selon le communiqué.

 

Le Pentagone devra confirmer une nouvelle tranche en 2018.

 

Au total, l’armée de terre prévoit d’acquérir environ 49.099 de ces véhicules jusqu’en 2040 et les Marines 5.500, selon le communiqué.

 

Le montant total du contrat passerait alors à 30 milliards de dollars, selon des estimations du Pentagone publiées par la presse américaine.

 

Le nouveau véhicule doit remplacer à peu près un tiers des Humvee en service dans l’armée de terre.

 

Oshkosh est un constructeur de camions et de matériels spécialisés militaires et civils (engins militaires, camions de pompiers, transport de béton ou de déchets), originaire de Oshkosh dans le Wisconsin (nord).

The Oshkosh® MRAP All-Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV) Standard Base (SXB) was outfitted with an EOS R-400 fire control system integrated with Orbital ATK’s M230LF 30mm lightweight automatic chain gun to demonstrate the viability and lethal effectiveness of a medium caliber weapon system equipped M-ATV.

The combat-proven Oshkosh M-ATV is designed to accommodate a wide variety of weapon systems. Its exceptional off-road mobility and integrated protection provide capabilities for the most challenging operations. This live fire demonstration showcased improved accuracy in mobile engagements and integrated improved lethality on the M-ATV using a multi-role, multi-target automatic gun combined with a 3-axis stabilized Remote Weapon Station (RWS). Advanced performance data was captured from both the vehicle and the weapon system during the demonstration that included weapon and ammunition data, range and ambient environment, and vehicle attitude and dynamics.

USMC Extended Boom Forklift Upgrades

Oshkosh Defense has been contracted to upgrade the US Marine Corps' EBFL (Extended Boom Forklift) fleet over the next five years.

 

Valued at up to $99 million, the contract will run until September 2019 and see the USMC's in-service EBFL's thoroughly modernised. The contract will see Oshkosh Defense supply around 100 cabs, plus spare parts.

 

Constructed by JLG Industries - a division of Oshkosh - the USMC's EBFLs were supplied from 2002 onwards. They take the form of a four-wheel drive forklift equipped with rubber tyres and offering a range of steering options, maximising manoeuvring capability within tight spaces.

 

Extended Boom Forklift

 

Able to traverse rocky terrain, each Extended Boom Forklift has a top speed of 35 mph and a 425 mile range. Medium-lift capable, the EBFL is at its best when lifting loads weighing between 4,000 and 11,000 pounds. Its boom system means that 4,000 pound loads can be extended out to 27 feet beyond the cab and the whole vehicle can be accommodated inside the cargo hold of a C-130 Hercules strategic airlifter.

 

The extended boom feature facilitates operations that involve reaching into trucks or shipping containers and getting objects lifted over other objects.

 

USMC Forklift Upgrades

 

"As the original equipment manufacturer of the EBFL, Oshkosh is very well suited to provide the best value, lowest risk solution to the Marine Corps as they look to enhance the useful life and capability of this expeditionary forklift fleet", explains Oshkosh Defense's Domestic Programs senior vice president, John Bryant, in the firm's USMC forklift upgrades press release.

 

"Because these forklifts operate right alongside the tactical wheeled vehicles that we build and support for the Marine Corps, we applied our operational insight to optimize the protection, loading functionality and sustainment of this forklift fleet - at an affordable cost."

 

Bryant concludes: "The Marine Corps will receive vehicles in like-new condition with several design improvements for significantly less cost than a brand new vehicle."

OSHKOSH, Wis. -- Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE: OSK), reached a milestone in the U.S. Department of Defense’s (DoD’s) Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) program by completing Net-Ready testing with the Oshkosh Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle (L-ATV).

 

“We are pleased that our JLTV has demonstrated its capability to transfer critical data from onboard systems to external networks during this testing and evaluation process,” said U.S. Marine Corps Colonel (Retired), John Bryant, senior vice president, Defense Programs for Oshkosh Defense. “This is another important milestone in what has been an exemplary procurement program by the DoD, which will provide the protection and mobility our service men and women need for future missions.”

 

A core element in developing the next-generation light vehicle is fully supporting the execution of operational activities and information exchanges identified in DoD Enterprise Architecture, while satisfying the JLTV’s technical requirements for the transition to Net-Centric military operations. Oshkosh recently completed this testing at the Electronic Proving Grounds at Fort Huachuca, Arizona – the United States Army’s developmental test center for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber and Intelligence (C5I) capabilities.

 

Oshkosh Defense has successfully completed every milestone to date throughout the JLTV program’s Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase, including the design understanding review, manufacturing readiness review and on-time delivery of 22 prototype vehicles 12 months after the start of the EMD phase. As an Original Equipment Manufacturer, Oshkosh has an in-house team of C4ISR experts who designed the C4ISR solution for the fully integrated JLTV EMD prototype vehicles it has delivered for the program.

 

Oshkosh is providing vehicle training and support throughout the 14 months of robust military testing during the EMD phase. The JLTV is expected to fill a significant capability gap that exists between larger MRAP vehicles and the aging High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV) fleet.

Oshkosh’s JLTV platform completes net-ready testing

Oshkosh Defense has completed net-ready testing for the light combat tactical all-terrain vehicle (L-ATV), which is being developed for the US Department of Defense's (DoD) joint light tactical vehicle (JLTV) programme.

 

The testing was carried out at the Electronic Proving Grounds at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, US, which serves as the US Army's developmental test centre for command, control, communications, computers, cyber and intelligence (C5I) capabilities.

 

Oshkosh Defense Programmes senior vice-president US Marine Corps colonel (retired) John Bryant said the testing highlighted the Oshkosh JLTV's capability to transfer critical data from onboard systems to external networks.

 

"This is another important milestone in what has been an exemplary procurement programme by the DoD, which will provide the protection and mobility our service men and women need for future missions," Bryant said.

 

JLTV solutions are needed to support the execution of operational activities and information exchanges identified in the DoD's enterprise and architecture, and also the transition to net-centric military operations.

 

Oshkosh has developed and delivered 22 JLTV prototypes as part of the programme's $56.4m engineering, manufacturing and development (EMD) contract, awarded by the US Army in August 2012. In addition, the company is providing vehicle training and support.

 

Manufactured on the Oshkosh's active manufacturing line, the JLTV prototypes include a four-door multipurpose variant and two-door utility variant.

 

Both versions feature common crew protection and advanced automotive systems, as well as the patented Oshkosh TAK-4i intelligent independent suspension system, which provides enhanced levels of protection and off-road performance in a light vehicle.

 

The JLTV programme is aimed at replacing the US Army and Marine Corps' fleet of ageing high-mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicles (HMMWVs), which have been in active service for more than 25 years.

 

Lockheed Martin and AM General are the other two companies bidding for the JLTV contract.

Unmanned ground vehicles by Oshkosh Defense are being put through their paces in Paris this week at Eurosatory 2014 in Paris.

The vehicles, which are navigating a course that simulates military route clearance, as equipped with Terremax, the company' s modular, multi-sensor appliqué kit that can be integrated into new vehicles or retrofitted onto earlier ones.

Vehicles equipped with the TerraMax UGV can easily collaborate with manned vehicles. The company is developing the technology independently as well as in collaboration with the U.S. Army and Marine Corps.

The demonstrations in Paris are taking place through Friday. The U.S. military recently conducted evaluations of UGV convoys in the United States.

"Vehicles equipped with TerraMax UGV can be used in concert with manned vehicles for a spectrum of operations including logistics convoys, route clearance and counter-IED missions, airfield construction and support, and more," said Urias. "This technology allows vehicles to operate for extended periods of time through challenging terrain, dust, darkness, rain, snow and other adverse conditions without the fatigue or loss of awareness that can afflict human operators."

USMC receives three prototype P-19 replacement ARFF vehicles

The US Marine Corps (USMC) has received three Oshkosh P-19 replacement aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) vehicle prototypes from Oshkosh Defense.

 

The delivery is part of a $192m firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery indefinite-quantity contract awarded to Oshkosh Defense in May 2013 to deliver new fleet of P-19 replacement ARFF vehicles to serve as the USMC's off-road firefighting vehicle of the future.

 

Under the contract, Oshkosh will provide the ARFF vehicles, as well as support and sustainment services to replace the USMC's current ageing fleet of A/S32 P-19A aircraft rescue/structural firefighting vehicle.

 

The three prototype vehicles will begin the USMC's testing.

 

Oshkosh Defense Defense Programs senior vice-president John Bryant said: "The Oshkosh P-19R will replace the fleet of Oshkosh P-19A ARFF vehicles, which were first fielded with the Marine Corps in 1984 and are reaching the end of their service lives.

 

"With this vehicle, we've rolled into one platform our decades of experience producing military and ARFF vehicles to give Marines more advanced firefighting capabilities."

 

Based on the Oshkosh logistics vehicle system replacement (LVSR) platform and Striker firefighting systems from Oshkosh Airport Products, the new vehicle is fitted with the new tactical wheeled vehicle technologies to support fire emergency missions at military bases and expeditionary airfields.

 

Featuring TAK-4 independent suspension system to provide exceptional mobility for off-runway response situations, the next-generation Oshkosh P-19R is also equipped with Oshkosh Command Zone integrated diagnostics and automation system to allow crew to conduct firefighting missions with increased situational awareness.

 

The new vehicle also meets the modern requirements of the NFPA 414 standard, which sets the ARFF vehicles' design, performance and acceptance criteria.

The Best Value for Canada

OSHKOSH, Wis. -- As the U.S. Army advances the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) program to fill a critical capabilities gap for ground operations, Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation, has presented a JLTV solution with unprecedented protected mobility.

 

The Oshkosh JLTV solution, the Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle (L-ATV), leverages unmatched depth of experience designing, integrating and sustaining vehicles for missions outside the wire.

 

Oshkosh is displaying its JLTV solution this week at the Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA) 2013 Annual Meeting and Exposition in Washington, D.C.

 

“The Oshkosh L-ATV redefines the future of light tactical vehicles – merging key design aspects of highly survivable combat vehicles and off-road tactical vehicles to operate in a wide range of threat levels and terrains,” said John Bryant, senior vice president of Defense Programs for Oshkosh Defense. “In fact, independent testing proves that the Oshkosh L-ATV provides the same ride quality at speeds 70 percent faster than today’s industry gold standard for off-road mobility, the Oshkosh MRAP All-Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV).”

 

Oshkosh delivered 22 JLTV prototypes to the government in August for the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase. The Oshkosh JLTVs were produced following Oshkosh's standard development process, whereby initial variants were prototyped and remaining trucks were produced on a warm production line.

 

Oshkosh’s manufacturing facilities operate on lean principles with a mature, disciplined quality management system tailored for military vehicles and systems integration. The Oshkosh JLTV prototypes are undergoing 14 months of robust military testing, and Oshkosh will provide vehicle training and support throughout the testing.

 

“From design concept to manufacturing, the Oshkosh JLTV solution was developed with soldiers’ needs in mind,” Bryant said. “Since day one, we’ve managed cost as a key technical parameter to optimize the total life-cycle cost of our JLTV.”

 

Using the Oshkosh TAK-4i™ intelligent independent suspension system, the Oshkosh JLTV solution delivers unprecedented levels of off-road mobility for a light vehicle. The vehicle achieves a 25 percent improvement in independent wheel travel over the most mobile vehicles currently fielded, allowing for faster speeds and new levels of ride quality in off-road environments. The TAK-4i system expands on the success of the Oshkosh TAK-4 system, which has been used on more than 20,000 military vehicles and given Warfighters greater mobility in rugged landscapes like those found in Afghanistan.

 

Leveraging its experience with armored vehicle platforms like the Oshkosh M-ATV, Oshkosh designed the L-ATV’s crew protection system to be scalable and accept multiple armor configurations to protect soldiers from continually evolving battlefield threats.

Oshkosh Delivers M-ATVs to UAE

Company Says It's Working on Saudi Deal

 

QUANTICO, VA. — Oshkosh Defense finished shipping the last of the 750 MRAP-All Terrain Vehicles (M-ATV) sold to the United Arab Emirates, and is working on a deal with Saudi Arabia for an undisclosed number of the lighter MRAPs, company officials here said.

 

John Bryant, senior vice president of defense programs for the company, said that Oshkosh is working on a long-term maintenance and supply agreement with the UAE to keep those M-ATVs humming. The UAE deal was announced in July 2012, and deliveries were completed this past August.

 

Since the potential Saudi deal is still in its early stages, Bryant said he could not provide any additional details, though he does expect announcements to be made by the end of the year.

 

Since the program came on line in 2009, the US Army, Marine Corps, and Special Operations Command purchased about 8,700 M-ATVs for use in Afghanistan, but as part of the overall divesture of its wartime MRAP fleet, the government will keep about 5,600 of them, with the Special Ops Command retaining about 250 vehicles.

 

Bryant said that the US government is planning on re-fitting almost all of the vehicles that come back from Afghanistan at its own government depots, but that Oshkosh’s supplier base should still see plenty of work funneling parts and technical expertise to the depots to finish up the work.

 

He also said that the company’s supplier base should stay pretty healthy over the next several years given the amount of work they have servicing Oshkosh’s heavy and medium vehicle fleets, as well.

 

“We don’t see any drying up of our supply base,” he said.

 

The company is also working on a series of safety, survivability, and mobility upgrades for the vehicles as they come home, including suspension upgrades and a new communications suite for international customers that would allow them to integrate more — and different — radios onto the platforms.

 

As one of the three finalists for the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle program, Bryant is concerned about the fact that the program’s managers say that they’ll run out of money to continue testing by next summer, unless they receive an infusion of cash.

 

Still, he said, the company is continuing to perform its own testing on the JLTV, and is eager to share that information with the government if they need it.

The Oshkosh JLTV solution, the Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle (L-ATV), delivers unprecedented levels of off-road mobility for a light vehicle. Using the Oshkosh TAK-4i™ intelligent independent suspension system, the vehicle delivers a 25 percent improvement in independent wheel travel over most mobile vehicles currently fielded, giving Marines greater off-road performance across rough terrain. Marines already rely on Oshkosh’s combat-proven vehicles with today’s gold standard in off-road capability, such as the Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR) and MRAP All-Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV).

 

Oshkosh Defense was down selected for the Engineering, Manufacturing and Development (EMD) phase of the JLTV program in August 2012 and delivered its 22 JLTV prototypes for government evaluations last month ahead of schedule. Oshkosh will provide vehicle training and support for the prototypes as they undergo 14 months of robust military testing.

 

HMMWV Upgrade Solutions

 

In addition to the procuring JLTV, the Marine Corps is seeking to upgrade a portion of its aged High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) fleet. Up-armoring HMMWVs in recent conflicts has diminished key vehicle capabilities, including off-road performance, ride quality and reliability.

 

Oshkosh Defense has developed modular and scalable HMMWV upgrade solutions that provide varying levels of capabilities at a range of price points. The upgrades can be provided individually or as more complete solutions for upgrading all critical vehicle systems. Oshkosh’s comprehensive, cost-effective approach addresses requirements for engine and powertrain, suspension, driveline, hubs and brakes, frame and hull, electrical, cooling, and auxiliary automotive improvements to meet the Marine Corps needs.

 

For example, Oshkosh has tailored its industry-leading TAK-4® independent suspension system to deliver higher levels of mobility, including a 70 percent off-road profile capability, improved ride quality and a 40 percent increase in the vehicle’s maximum speed. The TAK-4 system also gives the HMMWV greater whole-vehicle durability, a restored 2,500-pound payload capacity and a restored ground clearance of 17 inches. OSHKOSH, Wis. -- Global military forces require a mobile, protected and lightweight vehicle to navigate the unpredictable combination of terrain, tactics and threats they face in current and future missions. Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation, is ready to meet that need with the Oshkosh Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle (L-ATV).

 

The company is exhibiting the vehicle for the first time in Europe at the DSEI 2013 defence and security exhibition, Sept. 10-13 in London.

 

The Oshkosh L-ATV can help fill a vital capabilities gap for protection and mobility that global militaries face with their current light-vehicle fleets. Many historical light vehicle fleets, such as the High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), Eagles and Land Rovers, are nearing the end of their useful life cycle and were never designed to accommodate the armour and equipment that is needed for modern conflicts.

 

“The ability to operate on a battlefield with a wide range of threats and terrain is increasingly critical for forces around the globe,” said John Urias, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president of Oshkosh Defense. “The L-ATV was specifically designed to fulfil that mission. The L-ATV’s superior mobility is largely attributable to the Oshkosh TAK-4i intelligent independent suspension system. The TAK-4i system expands on the success of the proven TAK-4® system to deliver more than 50 centimetres of independent wheel travel – a 25 per cent increase over currently fielded vehicles. The TAK-4i system enables the L-ATV to shift power to the wheels that are in contact with the ground to provide control and manoeuvrability on dangerous terrain.

 

The L-ATV offers advanced troop protection against IEDs and other battlefield threats with a scalable armoured capsule optimized for protection, weight and mobility. The capsule’s modular, adaptable design can accept multiple armour configurations, allowing the vehicle to accept future enhancements.

 

Oshkosh Defense can deliver L-ATV fleets with fully integrated and tested command, control, communications and computer (C4) equipment. This includes factoring the mechanical, electrical and user interfaces into the vehicle design process to optimize overall system performance and the user experience. Oshkosh performs C4 installation in-house, either during the production process or after, to reduce time and costs. Oshkosh integrated C4 systems into the Oshkosh M-ATV, which contributed to the vehicle being designed, produced and delivered at a rate of more than 1,000 per month – all in less than one year.

 

“We blended the latest design and proven technologies in the L-ATV to create a vehicle with superior performance and reduced sustainment costs,” added Serge Buchakjian, senior vice president and general manager of international programs for Oshkosh Defense. “Our global life-cycle support offerings, from training and parts supply to maintenance support and remanufacturing, help keep vehicle fleets at peak readiness anywhere the mission requires.”

 

Virtual Training Improves Fleet Readiness and Reduces Costs

 

In addition to the L-ATV, Oshkosh will display a technology kiosk at DSEI featuring the Oshkosh Virtual Trainer Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) module. The Oshkosh Virtual Trainer provides life-like training in a safe, virtual environment, while providing troops the skills they need to perform actual tasks. Oshkosh currently offers the Virtual Trainer for multiple HEMTT configurations and has found it can provide a 20 per cent or more cost savings compared to a traditional classroom-only training approach.

 

The Oshkosh Virtual Trainer is part of Oshkosh’s Integrated Product Support (IPS) offerings, a comprehensive vehicle-service portfolio designed to optimize fleet readiness and life-cycle costs. Oshkosh IPS offerings include training services, instruction manuals, maintenance and repairs, parts supply, and fleet restoration services. Oshkosh has been executing a successful 20-year service plan for the British Armed Forces’ Wheeled Tanker program since 2003. This has included the development of training manuals, maintenance support and integrated logistics support for the fleet of approximately 350 vehicles.

OTTAWA, Ontario (May 29, 2013) — Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK), is showcasing the Oshkosh Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle (L-ATV) – the future of light tactical vehicles – for the first time in Canada at the CANSEC 2013 defence exhibition in Ottawa, Ontario. The L-ATV aims to replace aging Light Utility Vehicle, Wheeled (LUVW) and special operations vehicle fleets and give troops greater off-road mobility, protection, speed and transportability capabilities.

The Oshkosh L-ATV offers an advanced crew protection system proven to optimize crew survivability. The platform can accept multiple armour configurations, which allows the vehicle to adapt easily to changing operational requirements. The L-ATV also applies the Oshkosh TAK-4i™ intelligent independent-suspension system to provide significantly faster speeds when operating off-road, which can be critical to troops’ safety.

 

The U.S. Army and Marine Corps selected the Oshkosh L-ATV in August 2012 as one of three vehicles to be evaluated in the Engineering, Manufacturing and Development (EMD) phase of the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) programme, which focuses on replacing the HMMWV fleet. As part of the JLTV programme, Oshkosh will deliver 22 L-ATVs in August 2013 for U.S. Government testing and evaluation.

 

Also at CANSEC, the company will be displaying the Oshkosh Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) A4 Light Equipment Transporter and the Oshkosh Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) 5-ton wrecker, as well as demonstrating a new module of the Oshkosh Virtual Trainer for the HEMTT Load Handling System (LHS).

 

Oshkosh Defense leadership will be available at CANSEC to discuss the company’s commitment to Canada, as well its full range of vehicle, technology and service offerings, at indoor booth #1001 in The Ernst & Young Centre (formerly the CE Centre) and outdoor booth #2029 today through May 30.
