Algeria has signed a contract for the license assembly of around 200 T-90 main battle tanks with Russian arms exporting firm Rosoboronexport.

According to Moscow Defence Brief, the deal, signed last year, is worth around $1 billion. Russian business newspaper Vedomosti, quoting defence sources, on Friday said that this follows on a contract for the delivery of 185 T-90S tanks, delivered between 2006 and 2008 in a deal worth $1 billion. According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), another 120 T-90S tanks were delivered between 2012 and 2013 under a 2011 deal worth $470 million.

The T-90 is a modernised version of the T-72, but although developed from the T-72, it uses a 125 mm 2A46 smoothbore tank gun, a new engine, and thermal sights. Standard protective measures include a blend of steel, composite armour, and Kontakt-5 explosive-reactive armour, laser warning receivers, Nakidka camouflage and the Shtora infrared anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) jamming system.

Algeria is acquiring a significant amount of military hardware as it continues with the massive overhaul of its military. According to the United Nations Register of Conventional Arms, some of Algeria’s imports in 2013 included ten armoured combat vehicles and 101 Russian main battle tanks (obviously T-90S tanks), 24 Fuchs vehicle kits from Germany, 60 73 mm HATGL recoilless rifles and 214 light machineguns from Bulgaria and eight air-to-surface missiles from South Africa.

Algeria is buying around 1 200 Fuchs APCs from Germany, which will assemble them in the North African nation, and is also jointly producing the NIMR vehicle in conjunction with the United Arab Emirates.

On the naval side, Algeria will soon take delivery of three new C28A corvettes from China and two Meko A-200N frigates from Germany. In September last year Italian shipyard Fincantieri delivered the Algerian Navy’s flagship amphibious warfare vessel Kalaat Beni-Abbes at its Muggiano Shipyard. As part of its naval modernisation programme, Algeria will in 2018 take delivery of two Project 636 Varshavyanka (Kilo class) diesel electric submarines from Admiralty Shipyards in Russia. Algeria has also ordered two new Tiger class corvettes from Russia.

The Algerian Air Force is also getting a boost with the acquisition of up to six Mil Mi-26T2 heavy lift helicopters and 42 Mi-28N Night Hunter attack helicopters while 39 of its Mi-171Sh helicopters will be modernised. The second Mi-26T2 was seen undergoing flight testing in Russia earlier this month.

Russia is a major supplier to Algeria, which is one of the world’s leading arms importers. Rosoboronexport, owned by state conglomerate Rostec, sold more than $13 billion worth of military equipment in 2014 and hopes to sell just over $13 billion this year. Rosoboronexport on Monday said its orders portfolio stands at $38.5 billion.

Plusieurs entreprises ukrainiennes de défense veulent poursuivre leur coopération avec la Russie malgré l'interdiction de Kiev, a annoncé mercredi aux journalistes le chef de la délégation russe au salon international d'armements Eurosatory 2014 à Paris Igor Sevastianov.

"(Le président ukrainien) Piotr Porochenko a annoncé la fin de la coopération militaire et technique avec la Russie. Toutefois, plusieurs entreprises ukrainiennes  veulent respecter leurs engagements", a indiqué le vice-président de l'agence russe d'exportation d'armements "Rosoboronexport".

Selon lui, le non-respect de contrats déjà conclus avec la Russie est lourd de sanctions juridiques.

"Nos fournisseurs seront obligés de payer des amendes", a ajouté le responsable.

Auparavant, tous les experts interrogés par RIA Novosti ont déclaré unanimement que l'abandon de la coopération militaire et technique avec la Russie annoncé lundi par le président ukrainien Porochenko constituait une démarche assez risquée.

Pratiquement toute la production militaire ukrainienne étant destinée  à la Russie, Kiev risque non seulement de perdre son principal client sur le marché international, mais également de laisser sans emploi des centaines de milliers d'Ukrainiens.

The helicopter will be delivered part of a contract signed by Rosoboronexport

Russian Helicopters, a subsidiary of Oboronprom, part of State Corporation Rostec, has built the 3,500th export version of the Mi-17 at Kazan Helicopters. The helicopter will be delivered to the Indian Armed Forces as part of a contract signed by Rosoboronexport in 2012.

A contract for 80 military transport Mi-17V-5 helicopters was signed by Rosoboronexport in 2008, and all obligations have been met by the Russian side. In 2012 - 2013 India ordered a further 71 helicopters, which are currently being built by Russian Helicopters to the agreed schedule.

“South and South-East Asia are a core region for promoting Russian manufacturing. Our helicopters are well-known here and demand has remained constant,” Russian Helicopters CEO Alexander Mikheev said. “Today more than 250 helicopters built at our facilities are operational in India. They are used for flight training, personnel-carrying, search-and-rescue and medevac missions, and providing assistance in emergencies. Thanks to their unique abilities they can operate in even the most adverse weather conditions, and complete their missions with distinction.”

In summer 2013 Russian-built military transport helicopters were involved in evacuating people after torrential rains caused severe flooding in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand. In February this year Mi-17V-5 helicopters evacuated about 200 residents of villages in the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir in the Himalayas after they became cut off from the rest of the region following cold weather and heavy snowfall.

The Mi-17V-5s being delivered to India are part of the legendary Mi-8/17 series, and are built on the construction solutions of previous generations of the series. All of the helicopters are fitted with a KNEI-8 avionics suite and a new PKV-8 autopilot, which helps reduce pilot workload and provides comprehensive information to enable pilots to complete complex missions. In addition, the helicopters being supplied to India are fitted with modern powerful engines, significantly expanding their capabilities for transporting heavy and bulky loads, particularly in the high mountain terrain characteristic of northern India.

Soviet- and Russian-built helicopters have operated successfully in India for more than half a century. The first Mi-4s were delivered in January 1961; in the decades since, Mi-26s, Mi-24/35s, Mi-8/17s have all been supplied to India.

Russian Helicopters attaches particular importance to providing after-sales maintenance services in regions where it supplies helicopters. The parties are currently collaborating on the development of an offset programme aimed at expanding India’s capabilities to provide maintenance services for Russian helicopters.

Russian Helicopters is also interested in developing the Indian market for commercial helicopters. Today development work is ongoing on the new multirole Mi-171A2, which could potentially expand the fleet of Russian-built helicopters in India. The new helicopter is the latest addition to the Mi-8/17 series and over time will replace its predecessors from this illustrious series. The Mi-171A2 has been designed using the latest materials and aerospace technologies, and will come with an upgraded power plant, new rotor system and modern avionics suite.

Russian Helicopters is currently participating in India Aviation 2014, where it is showcasing its current and forthcoming models to operators from South and South-East Asia. India Aviation 2014 is taking place at the exhibition centre of Begumpet airport in Hyderabad, and the company’s stand can be found in Sector B at stand 42.

Les exportations russes d'hélicoptères militaires et de transport militaire ont décuplé en dix ans, a annoncé vendredi à Moscou Mikhaïl Zavaliy, responsable de l'Agence russe d'exportation d'armements (Rosoboronexport), à la veille du 13e Salon Dubai Airshow.

"Rien qu'en 2013, les exportations d'hélicoptères augmenteront de plus de 20% par rapport à 2012. Il s'agit d'une tendance stable. En 2001, nous avions exporté 12 hélicoptères seulement, cette année, nous en exporterons plus de 130", a indiqué M.Zavaliy dans une interview à RIA Novosti.

Les hélicoptères représentent le secteur le plus dynamique de l'industrie de défense russe. "Cela s'explique par la demande croissante du marché pour les hélicoptères et par la politique de l'Agence russe d'exportation d'armements (Rosoboronexport) visant à promouvoir les hélicoptères russes. Nous avons élargi nos exportations, accédant notamment au marché du Proche-Orient", a indiqué M.Zavaliy.

LONDON — Russia’s military export organization Rosoboronexport said Nov. 1 that it had completed deliveries to the US government of 12 transport helicopters destined for the Afghan National Army.

Deliveries were completed last month, said the state-owned company in a statement. The 12 Mi-17V-5s were ordered in 2012 when the US government took up a $217 million option to purchase additional machines as a result of an earlier 2011 deal.

That deal involved the purchase by the US of 21 Mi-17s to bolster Afghan military transport capabilities in the run-up to the withdrawal of NATO combat forces by the end of next year.

At one point, the US Congress tried to block the purchase of helicopters from Rosoboronexport due to Russia’s continuing supply of military equipment to the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad, which is fighting a civil war with rebels. The Pentagon managed to sidestep the attempted ban.

Completion of deliveries of the latest batch of Mi-17s leaves a further 30 of the rotorcraft to be handed over to the US in 2014 under a $572 million deal Rosoboronexport signed earlier this year.

Les contrats signés entre la Russie et le Venezuela dans le domaine de coopération militaire atteignent onze milliards de dollars au total, a annoncé lundi le directeur de l'agence russe d'exportation d'armements Rosoboronexport, Anatoli Issaïkine.

"Le volume des contrats signés est estimé à onze milliards de dollars", a indiqué le responsable, ajoutant que la coopération russo-vénézuélienne dans le domaine militaire et technique avait atteint le niveau de partenariat stratégique.

L'armée du Venezuela est essentiellement équipée d'armes russes, a signalé le directeur de Rosoboronexport.

Russia expects to sell military equipment worth $11 billion in 2011, with aviation activities likely to account for up to 50% of this total.

Sergei Kornev, head of the Rosoboronexport delegation at last month's Paris air show, said deliveries of Russian-made combat aircraft and air-launched weapons are continuing to Algeria, India and Vietnam.

Algerian pilots are in Russia being trained on the Yakovlev Yak-130 advanced jet trainer (below), with the aircraft likely to be delivered in 2011-12, while Vietnam has recently received four of its 20 new Sukhoi Su-30MK2s.

China has recently ordered 154 more AL-31F engines for its Su-27/30-series fighters, and is in negotiations to buy more to power its Chengdu J-20s.

Despite the RSK MiG-35's elimination from India's medium multi-role combat aircraft competition, Kornev said Rosoboronexport will continue to offer the type for around $10 million less than the larger Su-30MK. "The Sukhoi is a huge airframe and not every country needs this," he said. "Many would rather go for a smaller platform with lower cost."

Away from the combat aircraft sector, a delayed contract to supply Jordan with two stretched-fuselage Ilyushin Il-76MF transports should be fulfilled this year. Both airframes have been completed and are at the Ramenskoye aerodrome in Zhukovsky near Moscow. One has already finished factory- and customer-acceptance trials, and both should be delivered later this year.

Deliveries to the Chinese navy of Kamov Ka-31 radar pickets and additional Ka-28 anti-submarine warfare helicopters have been completed, while Russia and the USA are close to finalising a $350 million order to buy 21 Mil Mi-17 transports for Afghanistan. Deliveries of the Kazan-built aircraft should start next year.
