Tognum supplying engines for Singapore navy

SINGAPORE, Dec. 2 (UPI)

Tognum AG's Singapore subsidiary has been given a contract to supply diesel engines for use on littoral patrol vessels by the Republic of Singapore navy.

The contract for MTU 20V 4000 M93L diesel engines was issued by Singapore Technologies Marine Ltd., which is building eight vessels for the Singaporean navy.

The value of the contract was not disclosed. A delivery schedule was also not disclosed but the first patrol boat is scheduled for delivery in 2016.

The MTU 20V 4000 M93L diesel engines are known for their low fuel consumption and long service life. The engines produce 4300kW (5766bhp), the company said.

The engines are made by MTU, a German subsidiary of Tognum, which has its headquarters in Germany.

"MTU's reputation, brought about by its powerful, economical and clean engines combined with a track record as a leading innovator, has cemented its status as one of world's leading suppliers of engines and propulsion systems in the marine industry," Tognum said.
