On 21 and 22 August 2013, the European Union Training Mission Mali (EUTM Mali) received the visit of Colonel John Venau and Divisional Commissioner Frank Van Der Mueren, from EUCAP Sahel Niger Mission, accompanied by Mrs. Laura Mascagna and Sara Campinoti, from the European Union Delegation in Mali. The purpose of this visit was to improve mutual knowledge between the different European Union stakeholders in the Sahel region and to discuss the joint issues and prospects between the two missions.
During the first day, the delegation was received by General Bruno Guibert, commander of the European Union Training mission in Mali, and attended a presentation of the mission within Main Headquarters in Bamako. The second day was dedicated to the presentation of the « training » component in Koulikoro. After being welcomed by Colonel Philippe Testart, commanding officer of Koulikoro training camp, the delegation attended the training activities of the Malian battalion « Elou », including an urban combat training sequence in the combat village of Koulikoro.
Launched in August 2012 for a term of two years, the EUCAP Sahel Niger Mission includes 50 European experts in the areas of justice and security, and aims at contributing to improve the capacity of Nigerian security forces, in order to fight efficiently terrorism and organized crime in the region.
