TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Army Ground Force plans to stage a massive wargames in the Central province of Isfahan on Wednesday to exercise asymmetric capabilities.

Speaking to reporters here in Tehran on Monday, Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan announced that the wargames, codenamed 'Beit-al-Moqaddas' will be held in Isfahan's Nasrabad region on the occasion of the Liberation of Iran's Southern city of Khorramshahr on May 23, 1982.

Former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein's forces captured the port city of Khorramshahr on October 26, 1980 in a surprise attack on the early days of Iraqi-imposed war on Iran (1980-1988) but Iranian forces liberated the city in a massive military operation named 'Beit-al-Moqaddas'.

As regards the objectives of the wargames, Pourdastan said that "we will display our capabilities and tactics in asymmetric warfare".

"The goal behind the exercises is to keep our forces prepared for real warfare and of course to test and assess the new weapons produced for the force by the Self-Sufficiency Jihad Unit in the battlefield and exercise new techniques," Pourdastan noted.

Iran's Army and IRGC hold regular wargames to practice combat tactics and also test new home-made military tools, equipment and weapons in action.
