The Direction Générale de l'Armement has commissioned EADS Astrium and Thales Alenia Space to deliver separate studies on future military telecommunications satellites, the French procurement office said in a Sept. 7 statement.
The reports will help set the scope of the Comsat NG program due to be launched next year, the DGA said. The new generation program, intended to replace the Syracuse 3 system, is expected to take into account potential European cooperation, particularly with Britain and Italy, the statement said.
Astrium and Thales Alenia Space are to report on options in technology and industrial organization in response to military needs and with a view to “optimizing cost,” the statement said.
