India´ shipbuilder Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) has received the first Indian made equipment for the Scorpène submarines programme. The components were made by Flash Forge India Pvt. Ltd according a contract awarded by DCNS in June 2011.
MDL is producing six Scorpène based P75 submarines under transfer of technology (ToT) from French shipbuilder DCNS. Simultaneously, DCNS India Ltd is working at the selection and qualification of local companies as partners for local production of the submarines’ equipments.
The Scorpène design is in service with Chilean and Malaysian navies. The Brazilian Navy also procured the submarine. It can be armed with naval mines, torpedoes and MBDA Exocet SM39 Block Mod 2 anti-ship missiles.
All Scorpène submarines are equipped with DCNS SUBTICS combat management systems and S-CUBE sonar system from Thales Underwater Systems (TUS).
