New Delhi: Indian Air Force (IAF) chief, Air Chief Norman Anil Kumar Browne urged defence scientists the need to develop a military aircraft engine for the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA). The Defence Research and Development Organisation was given the task of developing an indigenous engine 22 years ago.
The Kaveri engine programme has been sanctioned a budget of Rs.2,893 crore for its development so far. "This is one of the core technologies required by the nation," said Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne during an aerospace seminar organised by the Institute of Defence Studies and Analysis (IDSA).
"You may have to beg, borrow or steal. But you have to do it," Browne said, stressing on the need to hasten the development. Currently the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) is using a GE engine.
He also said that the latest Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar was a critical need for the IAF. He urged DRDO scientists to develop the radar indigenously.
