India and Russia are working on a new version of the Brahmos which will be able to achieve hypersonic speeds (fly at Mach 7 ).
Hypersonic Brahmos will require a completely new engine to power it and new materials which can withstand high temperature and vibrations at Mach 7.
CEO and MD of BrahMos Aerospace, Dr A Sivathanu Pillai has said that companies from both India and Russia are actively taking part in the development of on board electronic and sub systems.
He said that Indian Institute of Science and Moscow Aviation Institute would take lead in the development of the critical components required for the Mach 7 Brahmos.
Supersonic Brahmos anti-ship missile is already being integrated on the Indian Su-30MKI and flights test will start next year.
Both Russia and India are already working on new Seeker heads to achieve increase the accuracy of the missile
