The U.S. Air Force has added Lockheed Martin to its list of companies for support of its medical services worldwide.

Under the five-year, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity Consultant Advisory and Technical Services award, Lockheed will be eligible to compete for task orders for studies, analyses and evaluations, engineering and technical services, and management and professional support services.

"Efficiency in healthcare leads to lower costs and better results for patients," said June Shrewsbury, vice president of technical services within Lockheed Martin's Global Training and Logistics business unit. "Our technical expertise will support the Air Force Medical Service in its strategy and delivery of essential health care to military personnel."

A total of 13 companies have received the CATS contract, which carries a potential value of $985 million.

Lockheed recently received a contract from the U.S. Army to stand up a new research replacement laboratory for the U.S. Army Institute of Infectious Diseases at Fort Detrick, Md.

It is also handling the outfitting and transition activities for the San Antonio Military Medical Center.
