POMEZIA, Italy, Sept. 12 (UPI)

The Eurofighter consortium, together with prime contractor Alenia Aermacchi, has picked Northrop Grumman to provide inertial and satellite navigation systems.

The systems will be for use on Tranche 3 production jet fighters for Britain, Germany, Italy and Spain and will be provided by Northrop Grumman Italia under a contract worth $38.4 million.

The company has provided more than 400 inertial navigation systems for Tranche 1 and 2 Eurofighters.

"This award reflects Northrop Grumman's continuing success and growth in the international market, as well as the robust relationship that we have built with Alenia Aermacchi over many years," said Marco Clochiatti, managing director and general manager of Northrop Grumman Italia.

"Additionally, our selection for the Eurofighter program by all four nations reaffirms the strong reputations our products have for advanced technology, reliability and precision."
