The Israeli-produced HoverMast glider was developed by Sky Sapience
The Israeli glider market is heating up, as the Israeli company Sky Sapience revealed its new HoverMast glider during the weekend.
The company, which was founded by veterans of the Israeli Air Force (IAF) and additional experts, has developed an advanced glider which can be elevated to a height of nearly 50 meters within 15 seconds. The glider is attached to the ground or to a vehicle via a cable that also conducts electricity to the gliders' engines.
The glider weighs ten kilograms and according to the company, it's capable of carrying a payload of up to nine kilograms. Any payload of such a weight, such as electro-optic, radar or laser-pointer systems can stay aloft without any limitation at a height of 50 meters. The glider's chief advantages are the ability to stay airborne for a very long duration, as well the stability of the platform, which is primarily based on an advanced stabilization system. The gliders are an excellent substitute to static observation, replacing other measures such as telescoping masts and small UAVs.
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) revealed its first ETOP glider in 2011. It also operates on the same principle, and the company has announced that it is developing additional models for the purpose of carrying heavier payloads.
It seems that other companies have also understood the operational necessity for gliders, and are planning to unveil further models in the near future.
