The Singapore Armed Forces and United States (US) Marine Corps are conducting a bilateral exercise, code-named Valiant Mark, from 19 to 30 Sep 2011. Commander of 7th Singapore Infantry Brigade Senior Lieutenant-Colonel Clifford Keong and US Marine Corps Pacific Assistant Chief of Staff for Plans and Policy Colonel John Lowrey officiated at the opening ceremony of the exercise at Bedok Camp this morning.

About 500 personnel from the 1st Battalion, Singapore Guards, will be participating in the exercise with 155 personnel from the 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment. The exercise will include urban and area security operations scenarios, and culminate in a combined live-firing exercise.

Singapore and the US share an excellent and longstanding bilateral defence relationship. The two militaries also interact extensively through bilateral and multilateral exercises, professional exchanges and cross-attendance of professional courses. These regular interactions have served to enhance the interoperability between the two militaries and foster mutual understanding between their personnel.
