The Swedish defence solutions company Åkers Krutbruk, producing advanced protection for defence vehicles, has qualified the SCANIA truck for a high level of mine protection and IED protection. The protection suite integrated in the SCANIA truck is named 4G (4th Generation) and it has the same protection level as a modern combat vehicle. The famous function and reliability of the SCANIA truck are all intact and the maintenance can be done in the same way as in a non-protected truck.
It is also possible to convert from a non-protected to a protected truck within hours simply by utilizing the SCANIA modular system and switching the cabs.
Åkers Krutbruk is part of the IBD-group and is specialized in research, development, testing and production of advanced protection for defence vehicles.

It is very likely that a mine or IED-threat (Improvised Explosive Device - road side bomb) can be encountered during a humanitarian or peace keeping mission and the SCANIA 4G truck offers the possibility to solve the crucial logistical challenges in a safe manner.
The qualification of the mine and IED-protection has been done according to STANAG AEP-55 and under the strict control of the National Authority, FFK Karlsborg.
SCANIA will market the 4G protected trucks in their regular markets.
