WASHINGTON, May 17 (UPI)

The U.S. Navy announced it is giving the Sierra Nevada Corp. a contract modification to procure 360 IED jamming systems.

The systems are the dismounted Joint Counter Radio-Controlled Improvised Explosive Device Electronic Warfare systems, designed to prevent the initiation of radio-controlled bombs.

The contract, from Naval Sea Systems Command, is worth nearly $38.6 million.

The U.S. Defense Department said the systems are for use by U.S. forces in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility, which includes Afghanistan and Iraq.

The Navy manages the joint CREW program for Office of the Secretary of Defense's Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization.

Work on the firm fixed-price contract modification will be performed in Sparks, Nev., and Rancho Cordova, Calif. It is expected to be completed by December, the Defense Department said.
