EU Naval Force Flagship NRP Alvares Cabral Continues Strong Relationship With The World Food Programme |
During a recent port visit to Mombasa the EU Naval Force (EU NAVFOR) Somalia Operation Atalanta flagship NRP Álvares Cabral hosted representatives from the World Food Programme (WFP). The port visit in Kenya coincided with a re-supply visit from the WFP Ship MV Caroline Scan which allowed the second team of Finnish Marines to assume duties as the ships Autonomous Vessel Protection Detachment (AVPD) and marked the halfway point in the Finnish deployment, commited to the on-board protection of Caroline Scan.

EU Naval Force Strengthens Maritime Links With Kenyan Authorities |
Between 6th and 10th June, the EU Naval Force (EU NAVFOR) flagship NRP Álvares Cabral visited Mombasa, Kenya. During the visit the EU NAVFOR Force Commander, Commodore Jorge Novo Palma, visited several Kenyan authorities to discuss co-operation and knowledge sharing in order to enhance maritime security in the region.

EU Naval Force Helps to Strengthen Cooperation with the Tanzanian Navy |
Between 30–31 May 2013, the crew from French Navy frigate FS Guépratte, which is part of the EU’s counter piracy task force, conducted cooperation activities with the Tanzanian Navy whilst alongside Dar-es-Salaam, within the framework of the Local Maritime Capacity Building (LMCB) programme of the EU Naval Force, Operation Atalanta.

EU Naval Force (EU NAVFOR) Somalia - Operation Atalanta is part of the EU's comprehensive approach to tackle symptoms and root causes of piracy off the coast of Somalia and the EU Strategic Framework for the Horn of Africa adopted in November 2011.
EU NAVFOR conducts anti-piracy operations off the coast of Somalia and the Indian Ocean and is responsible for the protection of World Food Programme (WFP) shipping carrying humanitarian aid to the people of Somalia and Horn of Africa as well as the logistic shippings supporting the African Union troops conducting Peace Support Operations in Somalia (AMISOM). Additionally, Operation Atalanta contributes to the monitoring of fishing activity off the coast of Somalia.
