Brussels, 13 June 2013 EUROPEAN UNION - A 312/13
On June 12, the European Union and the United States launched the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Risk Mitigation Dialogue in Brussels, Belgium. The Dialogue, which is co-chaired by the European Union and the United States, represents a renewed effort to coordinate E.U. and U.S. CBRN assistance activities to mitigate CBRN risks of all kinds and international proliferation threats.
As long-time partners with a shared interest in promoting international security and preventing the proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), the European Union and the United States sponsor a broad range of activities designed to build international capacity to mitigate CBRN risks. The EU and the US hope to build on their strong relationship by using the CBRN Risk Mitigation Dialogue to promote improved coordination, identify gaps in assistance, and explore possible joint efforts to efficiently and effectively mitigate proliferation threats worldwide.
The Dialogue brings together the range of relevant E.U and U.S. stakeholders, including the European External Action Service, the European Commission, the U.S. Departments of State and Defence, and the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration.
