TEL AVIV, Israel, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Israeli government ministers and labor leaders have recommended a merger between state-owned Israel Military Industries and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems in a major shake-up in Israel's high-tech defense industry.

The ASPRO-A (Trophy) active protection system developed by the Israeli RAFAEL Armament Development Authority rapidly detects and tracks any anti-tank threat, classifies it, estimates the
optimal intercept point in space and finally neutralizes it away from the platform using a countermeasure.
The threat detection and warning subsystem consists of several sensors, including search radar with four flat-panel antennas, located around the protected vehicle, to provide full hemispherical
coverage. The neutralization process will take place only if the threat is about to hit the platform.

Le 7 janvier 2011, les appuis artillerie de la QRF (quick reaction force - force de reaction rapide) de la FINUL (Force intérimaire des Nations Unies au Liban) se sont déployés au sud de Naqqoura pour l’exercice de tir en mer Neptune Thunder .
La 5ème brigade des Forces armées libanaises était associée à cet exercice de tir d’artillerie. Des militaires espagnols, indiens, portugais et coréens ont eux-aussi profité de la séance pour effectuer des tirs en mer avec leur propre armement.
Les quatre canons AUF1 de 155 mm ont réalisé leur dernier tir en mer au Liban. Très prochainement, ces canons sur chenilles vont être remplacés par les canons motorisés Caesar , plus modernes et encore mieux adaptés au terrain libanais.
Dans la matinée, toutes les unités de la QRF et le bataillon français et ses VBCI (véhicule blindé de combat d’infanterie) ont également pu s’entraîner avec leur armement (12.7mm, 20mm et 25mm).
Les pièces de missiles Mistral et le radar du détachement sol-air très courte portée (SATCP) étaient également déployés, durant toute la séquence de tirs, pour assurer la surveillance aérienne de l’exercice et détecter toute intrusion aérienne dans la zone de tir.
Dans le cadre de la résolution 1701, les appuis artillerie constituent des moyens majeurs de la QRF de la FINUL au sud-Liban.

TUCSON, Ariz., Jan. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) signed a contract worth $475 million with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the combat-proven Paveway family of precision-guided munitions. Raytheon's Paveway is a kit that transforms "dumb" bombs into precision-guided munitions.
