Three Chinese naval vessels traversed the Miyako waterway near Okinawa again on Oct. 23 as tensions remain high over disputed islands in
the East China Sea, reports the Global Times, a tabloid published under the auspices of the Chinese Communist Party.
The group consisted of two destroyers and one frigate, including the Type 052C guided missile destroyer Haikou, and passed through
international waters between the islands of Okinawa and Miyako to enter the East China Sea from the western Pacific. This was the first time for the Chinese navy to deploy its most advanced
destroyer to waters so close to Japanese territory.
