Australia DoD

CANBERRA, Australia, July 5 (UPI)

The Australian government has started a special office for the sale of Australian-made defense items to foreign governments.

Minister for Defense Stephen Smith and Minister for Defense Materiel Jason Clare said the Australian Military Sales Office is a one-stop operation in which the Australian government will sell defense products directly to government customers. It will also help Australia's defense equipment manufacturers promote and export their products, including advanced soldier protective equipment, Phased Array Radar technology and Australian-built military vehicles.

"The Australian Military Sales Office begins operations immediately by incorporating the existing Defense Export Unit and the Defense Disposals Agency, and taking responsibility for the Global Supply Chain Program and our international materiel cooperation arrangements," the Australian government said.

Funding for the organization will come from existing resources within the Defense Materiel Organization.

The United States, Canada and Sweden have similar organizations.
