According Jane´s Defence Weekly, the Greek authorities approved the acquisition of twelve BAE Systems US Combat Systems M577A1G tracked command post vehicles from the German Army surplus. If the procurement proceeds, the fleet is to be delivered to the Greek Army.
Several variants of the M113 family of tracked armoured vehicles are in service with Greek Army.
Several upgrades are understood to be added including the integration of Rheinmetall Defence Electronics GmbH INIOCHOS V command and control system and INTRACOM Defense Electronics TRC-9210 transceiver for secure data and voice communication.
INIOCHOS V terminals are also installed on Krauss-Maffei Wegmann GmbH & Co. KG Leopard 2HEL battle tanks in service with the Greek Army. Greece procured 170 Leopard 2HEL, twelve Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH Büffel 3 armoured recovery vehicles and eight bridge-laying tanks.
140 Leopard 2HEL were assembled in Greece by Hellenic Vehicle Industry SA (ELVO), while METKA SA produced armoured hulls, armoured assemblies for the main gun, turrets and mechanical packages for the 170 battle tanks. Twelve armoured hulls where also manufactured by METKA SA for the twelve Büffel 3 recovery vehicles.
