NATO HQ, Brussels | A regular meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Joint Working Group on Defence Reform (JWGDR) took place at NATO Headquarters.
The meeting was headed by Mr. Heiner Brauss, Deputy Assistant Secretary General, Defence Policy and Planning Division.
The Ukrainian delegation included National Institute for Strategic Studies Director Mr. Andrii Ermolaev, Ukrainian Security and Defense Council Department Director Mr. Volodymyr Omelianchuk, Deputy Head of Ukraine’s Mission to NATO, Minister Counselor (Military issues) Mr. Viktor Korendovych, other Ukrainian officials at NATO.
During the meeting, the Ukrainian side presented latest editions of the Ukraine’s National Security Strategy and Military Doctrine, sanctioned by the President of Ukraine in June. They talked perspectives and priorities of further NATO-Ukraine cooperation on security and defense issues.
The NATO counterparts appreciated the presented strategic documents, marking their significance for development and building-up of NATO-Ukraine cooperation in defense and security sector reform. They confirmed the Alliance dedication to provide all necessary support for augmenting Ukraine’s efforts in implementation of these documents.
The next meeting of the JWGDR involving Ukrainian and Allied Defense Ministers, as well as key defense and security experts, is scheduled in October.
