Orbit International has received two contracts from the US Navy totalling $1.6m to provide uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units in support of its unidentified LHA amphibious assault ships.

Under the latest contract, which brings the total number of production orders received for the units to date to three, Orbit's subsidiaries Behlman and Power Group will deliver UPS units, as well as spares for installation onboard the LHA ship.

In addition, the company expects to receive additional orders valued at more than $316,000 for battery chassis for use along with the UPS units outfitted on three US Navy LHA ships, as well as spare parts amounting up to $188,000 in the next few months.

"To achieve the extremely high power density needed to deliver clean, regulated DC power, Behlman engineers developed a new standard for VPX power supply design."

Behlman Electronics president Ron Storm said the company would continue to remain focused on providing solutions to address customers power system problems.

"To achieve the extremely high power density needed to deliver clean, regulated DC power, Behlman engineers developed a new standard for VPX power supply design," he said.

The company has also introduced two new 6U, OpenVPX power supply technologies, the Behlman VPXtra 1000CD, a dual output, high power, DC-DC COTS power supply, and the Behlman VPXtra 1000CM, a multi output, high power, DC-DC COTS power supply.

Based on several switch fabric technologies in 3U and 6U format blades, the OpenVPX architecture framework defines system level VPX interoperability to support multi-vendor, multi-module, integrated system environments.

The VPX power supply design incorporates card edge conduction Xtra-Cooling Technology, Xtra-Reliable Design and Xtra-Rugged Construction.

During the first half of 2013, approximately $830,000 worth units are expected to be delivered, while the remaining will be scheduled to take place from August 2014 and run through to March 2015.
