WARSAW -Poland's Ministry of Defense has awarded a contract for 33,333 combat helmets to local protective equipment manufacturer Maskpol, the ministry's Armament Inspectorate said. The deal is for 36 million zloty ($13.2 million). In the course of negotiations, the ministry secured a rebate from the company, the Armament Inspectorate said in a statement. Deliveries to the Polish Army are to begin this year and continue through 2018. In the first year of the contract, Maskpol will supply some 6,467 2005 model helmets. Based in Konieczki, in the country's southwest, the company produces a range of military equipment, including protective vests, helmets, gas masks and combat uniforms for infantry soldiers and gunners. Maskpol is a subsidiary of the state-owned Bumar Group, Poland's largest defense industry player, which has assets worth more than 1.17 billion zloty. In 2010, the protective gear manufacturer posted revenues of 83 million zloty and a net profit of 4.8 million zloty, according to the local daily newspaper Rzeczpospolita. Revenues of Bumar Co. Ltd., the group's leading company, stood at 2.45 billion zloty last year, while its net profit totaled 17.9 million zloty. While final results of the group for 2010 have not yet been made public, Bumar Group said its aggregate net profit exceeded 100 million zloty last year.
