Press release from Rockwell Collins:

OTTAWA, Ontario (Feb. 14, 2012) – Rockwell Collins is expanding its presence and commitment to Canadian aerospace and defence through their facilities in Ottawa and Montreal. The newly renovated and expanded office space in Ottawa was unveiled at a ribbon cutting ceremony today for customers, dignitaries and employees.

Located at 30 Edgewater Street, the Ottawa facility specializes in the design and development of wireless, ad-hoc networking technologies, including battlefield modeling and simulation of tactical networks. The Sub-Net Relay (SNR) technologies developed in Ottawa are used by the Royal Canadian Navy and coalition partners around the world to establish ad hoc, Internet-Protocol (IP) networks used for tactical data exchanges, chat, enhanced situational awareness and collaborative planning.  Rockwell Collins Canada and General Dynamics Canada have also demonstrated the ability to embed SNR technologies in the Canadian Army’s Combat Net Radio (Enhanced) radio to provide similar capabilities for the Canadian Army.

The facility also serves to coordinate customer service and repairs for Rockwell Collins products sold to Canadian military customers.

“The relationships we’ve built with the Canadian aerospace and defence industry over the past few years has already resulted in a more than doubling our business since we first established our Government Systems presence in the region in 2006 through the acquisition of IP Unwired,” said Lee Obst, managing director for Rockwell Collins in Canada. “We hope this expansion is the first of many across the region to better serve our growing Canadian customer base.”

“Canada plays an important role in Rockwell Collins’ overall effort to grow our business globally by establishing a strong local presence,” said Greg Churchill, executive vice president, International and Service Solutions for Rockwell Collins. “Establishing a strong, local presence in Ottawa is a key element of that strategy.”

Recently announced program awards for Rockwell Collins Government Systems in Canada include:
  • In 2010, Rockwell Collins was selected to provide its Common Avionics Architecture System cockpit for the Royal Canadian Air Force CH-47 Chinook.
  • Recent aircraft acquisitions, including Rockwell Collins avionics products and systems include the C-130J Super Hercules, CC-177 Globemaster, and the CH-148 Cyclone Maritime Patrol Helicopter including two full-motion simulators.
Rockwell Collins also maintains a substantial presence in Montreal, Quebec, providing system engineering, customer support and sales to Bombardier. The facility plays a central role in maintaining a strong relationship with Bombardier, one of the world’s largest commercial and business aircraft manufacturers.

Recently announced commercial aircraft program awards for Rockwell Collins Canada in Montreal include:
  • In 2011, Rockwell Collins’ Pro Line Fusion® avionics system and Primary Flight Control Computer (PFCC) were selected for the Bombardier Global Vision flight deck that is on the Global 7000 and Global 8000 aircraft, both of which feature the Global Vision flight deck.
