The Russian Air Force has received a new batch of six Mi-28N Night Hunter attack helicopters, Defence Ministry spokesman colonel Vladimir Drik said.

RIA Novosti quoted the colonel as saying: "The helicopters have been delivered to the Torzhok training centre to improve the pilot training programme."

The all-weather Mi-28N, a modified version of the Mi-28 Havoc attack helicopter, has been designed to perform hunter-killer missions against ground forces, helicopters and main battle tanks (MBTs).

The air force operates a total of 24 Mi-28s built at the Rostvertol plant in southern Russia.

The Russian defence ministry plans to procure around 45-67 Mi-28Ns to replace the existing fleet of Mi-24 Hind helicopters by 2015.
