The Swedish Navy’s Visby stealth corvette has passed a major milestone by firing a RBS15 anti-ship missile, according to the Swedish Defence Force.
The Bofors RBS 15 anti-ship missile, known as sjömålsrobot 15 in Sweden, is used to fight other ships at long stand-off distances, and is one of the major weapons systems aboard the corvette. The RBS 15 weighs nearly half a tonne, and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in under half a second.
The Visby corvette is stealth vessel, so the missile is fired from a tube inside the ship. The delivery of the first two ships is now due in the fall.
