Baku | Two of 24 Mi-35M helicopters purchased by Azerbaijan from Russia have been transferred to Baku. APA reports that the delivery took place on December 12 from Rostov-on-Don airport by Volga-Dnepr’s An-124-100.
Within the framework of the agreement, Russian “Rosvertol” Joint-Stock Company will send other helicopters to Azerbaijan in 2012.
24 Mi-35M helicopters will be sent to Baku in accordance to a deal signed on September, 2010 between Rosoboronexport and Azerbaijan’s corresponding organization.
Jane’s Defense Weekly military publication reports that “Rosoboronexport” and Azerbaijan reached a $360-million deal for delivery of 24 Mi-35M assault helicopters.
The Mi-35 is a modernized version of the Mi-24, which is designed for attacking armoured vehicles. The helicopters can also perform airlift operations and the evacuation of wounded as well as provide fire support to ground troops.
The delivered helicopters are equipped with Russian-made night-vision goggles (NVGs), a new countermeasures system, Garmin GPS 115 with VPS-200 interface, and a turret-mounted IRTV-445MGH thermal imaging system.
