UK arms delivery to Iraq

Weapons and ammunition provided by the UK to support Kurdish regional forces battling ISIL insurgents in Northern Iraq have arrived in Erbil, Iraq.

At the request of the Government of Iraq to provide urgent military support, the UK will supply heavy machine guns and nearly half a million rounds of ammunition. This will give the Kurdish Peshmerga additional firepower in order to help them defend the front line, protect civilians and push back ISIL advances.

The weapons and ammunition, flown in by an RAF C-130 Hercules transport plane, arrived in Iraq yesterday evening.
